Problem installing SuSE 9.3 pro

Hi, I want to install SuSE 9.3 professional on a (GIGABYTE GA-8IPE1000 Hyperthreading) motherboard, and it fails to install a package called shared-mime-info and i retry and retry but it fails, so i skip. and when it finishes the first CDROM and wants to reboot to continue procedures like giving root password etc. etc. it just boots to the CDROM and installation procedures form scatch come back again. And if i choose <boot from harddisk> it hangs while booting. What`s the problem?

Though I personally never thought anyone would ever have a problem installing Suse or any other OS for that matter. ANd I think tutorials about how to install an OS or some kind of software are retarded. It looks like I Have been amiss to not believe a better idiot would be built.

what`s the matter with you? and what`s the point in sending me a newb tutorial on installing suse? i`ve installed it before, but i thought the prob was because the new motherboard that is not supported by it (maybe) or if there is another reason.

If the failed mime whatnot doesn't help you...

Try passing the failsafe options to the kernel at the Grub screen... SInce it obviously will boot... you just have to narrow down what's causing the hang, and it is most likely something that wasn't used during the original boot.

What kind of hardware are we dealing with? The install not working for some reaosn, OK the CD may have had a problem while it was being burned, but install finishing and the screen going blank is generally hardware, could be the MB, could be the video card.

Have you installed Linux on this box before? If so which distro? How did it work? Did X work?

Whiz: When I wrote those you hated them and said they sucked and that no one ever needed them, heh, never seen an entire class try installing for the first time have you? When I took the Linux+ class there were 30 people, out of all of us, 3 had used Linux before and actually installed it.

might just be a corrupt CD. Did you media check it? I have installed Suse on several gigabyte hyperhtreaders with no issues but that doesn't mean on exists. If I remember they don't have specific linux drivers either.

Here's the HCL for your board. It says that it is unkown if it is supported. So that would be a good indicator of your problem. Was the board made after 9.3 was?

I tend to check the HCL before I attempt to install a Linux Distro or upgrade a piece of hardware.

gore: I checked the cd for errors and no error found, and it`s not a burned cd downloaded from net, it is a package i bought. And i never installed linux on this box, this is my first install on it (it`s a new one). And now i tried to install it again and it failed to install a package called hal. It just fails to install a package in the first cdrom and when countdown to reboot it reboots to cd and installation from scratch. And yes i bought the motherboard after the package.
Roadclosed: was it same model number as mine?
