    I must agree with SirDice ............. it is the RAM, not the processor................funnily enough you get the same with Win ME as with XP. If you cannot get the extra RAM then go Win 2000 or Win98SE

    Thanks for the advice, it looks like it'll be a huge help. I'll go over each post again and see what I can do, then let you know how things turn out.

    There are some other things that you might do:

    1. Get CrapCleaner and run it daily (it is free).
    2. Go into your startup options and turn off everything that you don't absolutely need Automatic updates are a favourite here. For example, MS generally only issue updates on the second Tuesday of the month.
    3. Go into <start> <settings> <control panel> <system> <advanced> <performance options> and try changing the virtual memory to 512Mb.
    4. Defragment your drive regularly.
