well you would need the restore disks that came with the laptop, but chances are those discs were created after they configured the system therefore you would still be where you are now.

Wouldn't hurt to try it though.

Just find the re-store discs put them in the CD drive and restart..then follow the directions.

I'm kinda wondering if dell didn't accidentally mis-type the password when they installed the system.

are you an administrator or is there someone you can call to at your place of business and talk to about whether or not you need to be connected to your network.

and if worse comes to worse, i could replace HD and slap a new OS on there. What about drivers... How would i compincate that? Would i still need the cd's or can I grab them offline?

well most likely installing a new copy of windows on there you wouldn't need any drivers.

If its regular dell system Microsoft should have most of the drivers.

The admin has given me UN and PW, he has logged on numorous times through the network.

I am sure it will work back at work while connected, but I am here asking if I could get in outside of work. Maybe using a bootdisk to override the login. I dont know.

well on every sysem I've set up thers always been an option when you log in, to log on locally.

which is the option you'd want.

However we can't seem to find that so...kinda at a loss on that point.

we know its not a PW problem then.

You might try talking to your admin and see if thers something special you need to do, but as I said I've always had an option on all sites I've set up to logon locally...but then again I've never had dell pre-configure computers for me..I always configure them myself.

You all have been an enormous help! I want to thank you all. Although I cant enjoy my laptop over springbreak I still have learned a lot.

If anyone can find a solution to this, I would be ever so appreciated!

pss... This is my personal laptop now, i may do what I please. Even if it means taking a backdoor through the login.

Best thing to do at this point is to just get a good nights sleep wake up tommorrow turn on the laptop, and see if you see something you might of missed earlier.

Remember, you want to look for something that says

    Log on locally

    Log on to this computer.

If you have a option somewhere that says "Domain"

make sure "local computer" is not an option.
