It's funny. I had forgotten about this thread for a few days and now something really strikes home and it's really beginning to peeve the sh1t outta me....

After some recent "relationship problems" caused by an utter failure on both our parts to properly and effectively communicate for some years Sweetie and I have recently discovered we both have the same desire... To adopt a foreign child. We are still very much in the information gathering stage _and_ the "are we sure we're not completely freaking nuts" stage, (she's 50, I'm 48), but some things are becoming immediately apparent.... The freaking immigration stuff is pretty damned outrageous...

We are looking at trying to adopt a girl from China but the immigration stuff is always the same from any country. You are talking months and months and several thousand dollars for the INS to process and approve us even bringing a child here. Then, here's a stupid one... After you have been through about 18 months of crap to adopt the child in China get the child into the USA in most states you have to re-adopt her.... SIGH.... so she can have a US birth certificate...

It's a horrific process and, from all the stories I have read, can be _very_ depressing. Beaurocracy is at it's finest in this process with documents being rejected left and right for the tinyest things... (A "funny" one is fingerprint rejection... The local police FP you and use the prints to identify you in their criminal search. The INS do the same but then the FBI reject the fingerprints as "unreadable".... WTF is that all about, 2 other agencies can read them!!! The rejection takes six weeks so you have to get new FP's and send them... They can be rejected 3 times at 6-8 weeks per rejection... Then you have to travel to your state capital, (after getting an appointment), for a long interview)... The whole process is nuts because once people make the decision, clearly, they become emotionally attached to a child that may not even be born yet so the rollercoaster of rejections of paperwork etc. is very draining for them.

Yet 12 million people have just walked into the country and are going to be allowed to stay because the politicians are trying to ensure a favorable voting base!!!!!!

    It's UTTERLY wrong... PERIOD!!!!!

Tiger... just fly your baby into Mexico. She'll be here in a few days. No one will stop her/he and if someone does they'll be vilified in the media. Libs will scream racist and she/he will be in your care in a few hours.

As a side note some of the strict rules on child immigration are designe to protect them from predators. Key word, connections. Pay-offs and buniness as usual in china. It could mean 6 weeks verus 6 months. I learned the fine art of corruption in my world travels establishing frequency bandwidth for US interests. Among other things.

//EDIT I am leaving in my usual mispellings for ID verification purposes.

Road: You do have a point... Hell, the more I read about this process the more horrendous it gets. The problem would be getting in _and_ out of China with a child... Once in Mexico though I think you are dead on... Actually, from everything I have read the Chinese adoption agency, (CCAA), are actually very good if you have dotted all your i's and crossed all your t's with the American authorities... Note: You have to be right with the American authorities before you get access to a child.

I understand that there is a need to protect from predators etc. but that is what CCAA does by requiring such things as Home Studies by licensed social workers, and the complete INS work being done including the local police and the FBI. The immigration stuff is a large chunk of the process and the cost, (when you figure in all the document preparation, notarizing, certification and authorization.

As you know, I am well aware of the INS and it's incompetence being an Ex-Pat. So you can have a clue as to how it bothers me to see what an American Citizen and a legal alien of 18 years will have to go through to bring a small child into the country when 12 million lawbreakers are going to be "let off"....

Seriously I had a friend who hired an "agent" over there to complete their paperwork. He took 6 weeks off and came back with a child. If you aren't afraid to get your hands dirty it's quite efficient. He is now 10 and kicks ass in soccer. Too bad it's a woman's sport. Oh, you could get a mexican, sorry LATINO, child. Just go down to Texas and hang out in a truck stop.

There is a county sheriff near where I live who sued the INS for payments to house illegal immigrants in his jail. The INS is actually now helping out. He is also calling for a boycott of all businesses who use illegals, along with going after these people.

    Mistress LeFay:

Thank you... It has been decided... Sweetie and I appear to be nuts enough to start this... The decision became final last evening...

Silly thing is... her name will be either Emily, Alyssa or Elyssa, (Lyss or Lyssa) or Katherine, (Katie)... We are still working on that... and we haven't even made the initial application yet... Yes, from everything I have read the "attachment" really does begin at the moment of decision...
