    To give an idea of the speeds...

    From my home connection (5Mbps cable) I was downloading at about 640KB/s -- 20% into the file..
    From my work connection (Unknown) I was downloading at about 1200KB/s -- 20% into the file..

    OK, so the apt-get dist-upgrade failed horribly. Ah well, what can you do?

    Well, it worked... however, now x can't find the nvidia kernel module. I try to download it and compile it using the nvidia installer and that fails too. I haven't had a chance to troubleshoot it further.

    I guess I'll just have to try it from a CD install. Damn... and when I was just REALLY starting to like the setup I had... ah well, easy to fix again.
    Quitmzilla is a firefox extension that gives you stats on how long you have quit smoking, how much money you\'ve saved, how much you haven\'t smoked and recent milestones. Very helpful for people who quit smoking and used to smoke at their computers... Helps out with the urges.

    Ok, I'm finally getting around to fixing up the suse 10.1 install on my laptop. I went to write a perl script and fired up my laptop to find grub corrupted and then I remembered that I didn't finish this install... (I've been caught up in Resident Evil 4... )

    Anyway, did anyone ever get nessus 3.03 working with 10.1? I looked again tonight and they have yet to release a binary (rpm) for 10.1. Will the rpm for 10.0 work on 10.1? If not, is there a way to trick it?

    Why not just install from source? I had to do that for one of my programs.

    Video drivers are ALWAYS an issue. Companies like ATI and Nvidia need to get off their soap box and release open source drivers. Take ATI if you don't run their installer and match their limited hardware support you have to rely on projects like DRI or GLX. Even with proprietary drivers you have to REALY pay attention to dependencies listed by the installation documentation. I had a BITCH of a time getting 3d accelleration to work on 10.0 so I could play GL-117 without it looking like an Atari 2600.

    Why not just install from source? I had to do that for one of my programs.
    Sometimes that is the ONLY way around updated systems.

    I have no problems with drivers at all.

    I buy nothing but Nvidia and I download the .sh script, shut down X, type sh NV(HitTab) it fills in the rest... Then hit Enter. I agree to the installer, and it installs the driver.

    Restart X, use sax2 to tell it I want 3D and I'm done. Works without one problem.

    I do the same for Slackware.

    lol. It's pretty cool having a 64 bit wide screen laptop. But let me tell ya, I have bought 2 other 64 bit machines each running linux and it's a bitch. I was going to try a dual core but I think I'll wait. But on the windows side some games fly with dual core.

    /EDIT speaking of software pains. I have been trying to get Pear to work with all the modules I need ALL damn morning and just now got it working. The version of pear I need for another module does not support package.xml 2.0 and the latests version of Pear core that do would not install do to inconsistancies. So I have been building module after module from source all morning. I don't mind though. It's fun, got good tunes and it's like a puzzle. Having just solved it onto the next.
