If the company cares about the AUP that they have, the you will most likely be caught. It probably is just a matter of someone get around to it.

If this communication is vital to your work, your group should write a proposal to your manager with what you think your group would need to work effectively. If your proposal has merit, then I'm sure that some SECURE alternatives could be created by the IT in your company.

Spending all this time trying to get around the rules will most likely come back to bite you in the ass and give you lots of spare time to chat with your friends....from home.

Williams Antony old chap, please consider what I am about to suggest to you.

1. You and the systems administrators actually belong to the same broader scoped team, it is your enterprise or business?
2. Neither of you have bothered to build up a rapport?................you have fallen into the old "us and them" trap
3. You appear to have a positive attitude towards your organization's goals, but you are letting this old enmity and mistrust cloud your judgement slightly.
4. Administrators have a lot of stuff on their plates and most of it is barely edible.
5. You seem to have a business requirement for collaboration software and systems.

So, what do we do?

1. You need to discuss your vision for the future with your line management. Without them, you will go nowhere except out of the door?
2. You need to build a better rapport with your systems administrators...........trust me, they would just love a project away from the humdrum boring stuff they have to deal with on a day to day basis
3. Talk with your co-workers, you will need them to "buy in" to the project if it is to work?

What you must NOT do is attempt to introduce software onto your network via the "back door"..............that will get you fired, and quite rightly so!

I have introduced "collaboration software" to numerous projects with the full co-operation of the systems administration team. They actually don't mind that much if they understand the requirements and know that you can be trusted.
