thnx for the information but if the MBR would have been corrupted then how would linux is working properly ie GRUB is doing fine
i had a similar problem on one of my boxes here, grub would load, and underground desktop would boot no probs, but when ever i would choose winxp it would give the NTDLR or what ever it's called missing or corrupt.
So just stick in your xp install disk, let it load up, and the menu that let's you install or do a repair screen, choose the repair option then choose the correct drive, then do a FIXMBR and it should solve the prob.
Well that's what fixed me issue..
