viewing USB drives in linux
I have tried Knoppix, which I am running now  ; it seems very user friendly, and it has a more customizable GUI than windows, which i like. I am very very new to this different OS business (i have just started straying away from windows), and I can't view the contents of any USB drives like my mp3 player and my flash drives. I'm assuming there is an easy way to do this, but I just can't figure it out. 
I found some USB viewing program, and it shows devices like the mp3 player, so I know they're being recognised.

Most live CD distros will come with USB support these days. Are you using an old version? My current build of Knoppix sees USB drives without issue.

I just downloaded knoppix a few weeks ago. When I put in the drive nothing happens.
Wiki says
After a short pause, an icon for each partition on the new drive should appear.
It (the USB viewer program) shows that the drive is in the port when it is inserted, as I said before, but I just don't know how to get into the drive. I don't see this icon...I know its not the drives, because they work in windows.

Update:
I have no idea why they didn't come up before, but I booted linux up again, and it recognised the flash drives, but I still can't get the mp3 player to work.
