Well I have done hundreds of MS OS installs...

and not much has changed from the NT4 days( 95/98/me excluded)...until the os is loaded....

and I NEVER update an OS...always a clean install...because..as you have discovered...it just creates one big mess..

As Nihil said...OEM disks are for new computers....

I still fail to see why this is an MS issue

    Greeting's

I'm not frustrated w/ my issue.

I'm frustrated w/ pointless posts about post not being in the "correct" forums. I've seen some threads that I didn't think would belong where they are but they stay. I'm already used to getting my posts moved even though everyone knows that once the thread is moved from front page it will never be seen again.
reminds me of great words by Nokia (dont mind mate )

There I wrote a meanigless post... now go and write a tutorial

It doesn't work like that.........................you go to "Member Options" and "Edit Front Page Display" and choose what you want to see.

Strange though it might seem if you had purchased a retail version of XP it would probably have worked. The problem with OEM versions is that they assume that they are the first and only kid on the block.

Using a third party boot manager will avoid this problem, as they effectively "hide" OSes from eachother.

The problem with Windows is generally the MBR, shared files and the Registry............you have to be careful not to overwrite stuff.

I guess you just kept clicking next next next...without fully comprehending what the consequences were.....
Lol click click click? Microsoft doesn't have GUI installers, you can't really click. Linux does, maybe Mac OS X does, but Windows installs are text mode. Have been since 3.1 which is the oldest version I've ever installed. XP and Server 2003 are text mode too. The only clicking in the install is after partitions are done and you're setting it up. The only full GUI installer I've ever seen was on Linux.

Yes you ae right Gore...my bad

Enter enter click click ...........its all the same.

The key here is to READ what the installer is asking you...and understand it

What part of the boot is it freezing on? Is it freezing at the same place each time?
Why won't it boot to knoppix? Errors anywhere, does it stall at a specific place every time?

the keyboard blinks (all three leds) and then it freezes

in windows, during when little thingy goes from left to right again and again

    in knoppix, during "device initiation"

in ubuntu live during "driver init" or something like that

    i think it's harware error

Yes ...definately sounds to be a hardware error...I am not sure if the knoppix cd swaps to the hardrive for boot...if it does I am guessing hardrive issue.

Must be Microsoft or Creatives fault....

that could signify something with your video card, try and boot in VGA mode. Not sure if that will work at all, but it's something to try.
