Might want to check this thread at the VMTN Forums: http://www.vmware.com/community/mess...ssageID=663907 in regards to Workstation 6 and OpenSUSE. The VMTN Forums are probably the best resource when it comes to support for VMware products, particularly the hosted variations.
Running virtual is always a nice idea, IMO.  But I'm biased.
