Mine was in like 1999 or 2000, it was PC-DOS 6.2 (I think that was the exact version, still have the floppies lol).

    PC DOS? IBM?

I seem to remember that was at 6.3 when MS DOS was at 6.22. Sort of one upmanship as MS had already released a 6.2

I have recently obtained a copy of Caldera DOS. Can't seem to find those millions of lines of Linux code though

I need Vista to use visual studio for visual basic.net work. OK I could use XP but not Slack.

Well, I too had heard of this news a lot ago. But you know what, I had used Vista and had been been using it using the OEM crack which the MS WGA team claims to be pretty aware of and had used it till very recend days untill I turned to Linux. And yes, I did not get any notificaations and no black screens (of death!)

Yes I used a pirated copy just to see what all Vista has to offer
. I had to sadly turn it down to be one of my primary future Oses (at least as of now). I do not know how those people keep the sofwtare running even after complining so much. Probably it is just because they have paid for the software!???

Anyway I don't think that there are no one among the pirates to find that mechanism and cheat MS once again.

    PS: I wonder why no-one talks about deactiving a Linux @-) !!

Yes, they are probably totally unreasonable people like me. When I pay $200+ for an operating system, I expect it to work

Because you generally just save, wipe, and reinstall without having to worry about service packs and security patches. Also, linux doesn't have complex licencing arrangements that it attempts to police when doing an install?

The main problem I come across is with multiple boots and GRUB/LiLo vs NTLDR.

My preferred approach is a separate drive (external with a laptop), but I am rather oldfashioned

My main problem with Linux (this is not a complaint, as that would be grossly unfair) is that people buy stuff that is basically Windows specific, and wonder why it won't work.

I do sympathise............. after all, I am totally p1$$ed off that I cannot get VMS to run on my Nokia mobile 'phone

    Cheers,

Well yes, My friends were all excited when one from our group got a DX 10 graphics card with 2 GB RAM and GENUINE Windows Vista HOME PREMIUM. He got it just for games! Later on the guy came to me. I was on my SLED then (with the XGL effects on). He could not resist to ask if those effects worked on his system? I told it was Linux. He wanted me to install it on his system. I had no words to say why it shouldn't be done/tried out!

Now as far as Vista is concerned, I am once again pissed off by my friend's requests to seeach for a "VISTA COMPATIBLE" sofwtare which worked fine with XP on their systems. I dunno why it is that "when MS does something good, it is not secure and when it is secure, it is just not usable"

    Yes,

I wonder if I might not be leading a bright young man astray, with my "middle aged cynicism"

Personally I have no loyalties........ other than to friends...........

An operating system or an application is just that; IMHO..... as good as it's last installation.

I will probably make the leap into Vista quite shortly. I will build a custom box for it. That would be "fair play" as I see things

I have seen so many attempted migrations from 98SE to ME, ME to XP and so on, to have my cynical attitude. I will retain my view that if you buy the right equipment for the operating system; it bloody well should work?
