    Hi there Wolfie~,

I am glad that you at least tolerate my Limey sense of humour.

To be honest with you I don't think that I have been on IRC for over a year, it does seem to have died, but there again the same has happened to a lot of forums and BBS.............. just a load of old farts like me reminiscing

I believe that IRC sites that deal with special interests (fishing, birdwatching etc.), gaming clans and the like are still very active, as it is a good means of communication for those communities.

The cellphone is something of a blessing as it keeps the Trolls occupied, but now you have the problem of spammers. I kid you not, it is enough of a PITA to keep spammers out of forums, let alone an IRC channel.

Just my observations from over here.

Actually JPnyc, Irish humour and British humour are quite different.

In Ireland you have the "craic" which is banter or repartee. Then you have "slagging", which I would equate to "flaming" in a forum

Only the British master sarcasm and irony............ with the exception of Oscar Wilde, but he had substantial British connections.

Are you talking about the baseball player? Regardless, I have not heard of Rickey Henderson. Does he also refer to himself in the third person?

He used to, all the time. Yeah, he was a baseball player. I don't think he ever played for a Canadian team though. Mostly I remember him with Oakland and the Yankmees.

Even if he had played for a Canadian team, I still wouldn’t know who he was. I really don’t follow baseball at all, Canadian or not, eh!.

Now, if he was a hockey player….that would be a different story!

I concur. I was a big baseball fan for most of my life, but when it finally hit home that my team (the NY Mess) never met a stupid move they didn't make, and that wasn't going to ever change, I walked away. Now I just watch the Rangers and giants (football).

Don't forget Bob Dole when it comes to speaking about himself in the 3rd person.
