Thanks for the update. Yes burning software and Windows can be a bit temperamental.

sounds like the good ol` driver competition.
I would say that between the various applications you had used, and/or different drivers. one or two things were going on.
1) Two drivers were being loaded, conflicting with each other and causing your issues
2) Two applications files were competing for the same resource and caused that resource to be unavailable.
Since installing Nero (which loves to dominate) it has loaded it's own drivers/files which it instructs windows to load and use, ignoring all others. I prefer not to use Nero for this exact reason.
