Thread: Windows 7 Anyone?

  1. #61
Sure it pays the bills. Microsoft in the Dos and win31 days was very, very profitable. Unfortunately, Microsoft probably wont survive 10 years from now if they keep screwing up their marketing models and breaking their own patches.

After a while, I'll just install Linux on their machines, have it run the updates in cron, and show them how firefox works
I've tried this as well, with mixed results. My folks didnt like it at all. Neither did my nurse or my auto mechanic. They all convinced me to reinstall windoze. Kids, in general, love it. I set them up with mac4lin (http://sourceforge.net/projects/mac4lin) and they were self sufficient from the get-go.

Regardless, they ALL require sys admin attention. Some more than others but that (IMO) has more to do with the user rather than the OS.

By the way, is that a shot at me about installing another OS stops security issues? I did kind of say that in the fixit4me part. I stand by that though. Whenever someone related to me buys a computer and wants me to take care of it, I get tired of cleaning up spyware after a while, and viruses and trojans and backdoors....

After a while, I'll just install Linux on their machines, have it run the updates in cron, and show them how firefox works as opposed to...well....Firefox on Windows. And tell them to use a different office suit. That literally fixes everything for me. I don't have to spend 4 hours cleaning up infections anymore, because they can't get infected.
No gore...that was not a shot....its just the whole MS vs *nix gets boring...thats all.

There are businesses that run MS...lots of them...worldwide....that need support.......and if you or anyone else dont wanna do it...just leave all them customers for me...oh and CSR

    Someones gotta do it....

4 hours to fix stuff for me = $$$ and\or wine

    That is my point.

If they dont adapt, I think you might be right. They are the IBM of this generation.
IBM was able to switch from being a hardware company to a services company. That saved them as Microsoft got traction and starting eating their lunch. Now google is doing to MS what MS did to IBM. We will see.

I don't find it boring at all. Unless of course Microsoft Windows 95 is exactly the same as Windows Vista.... The it would be boring. But they aren't the same thing, so the this VS that still works just fine, because they have all changed. Every version of Linux and BSD out right now, is much different than the ones that were out then. Hell, the ones out right now are different from ones that were out a year ago.

What happened to opinions here? People used to talk about stuff and actually voice what they felt, and now, it's like a giant hug fest with the only posts saying "Oh you found something neat, that is so awesome! You're a nice person, let's hug each other and pat each other on the back!".... t's gross. And if any of you trying hugging me or patting my back I'm shoving you into a puddle of mud and running.

What happened to "Seriously this is just crap" or something that showed someone somewhere payed attention? Vista came out and I thought for sure someone would finally have enough and want to voice an opinion....

And it turns out the only people who did were Apple with the constant commercials of how funny it is to have to OK everything you do from a pop up window that USED to annoy people. Why run a pop up blocker now? People are being de-sensitized to them from Vista asking if it's Ok to to move the mouse 4 niches to the left.

And hardware requirements are going through the roof now, and no one even says a word? WTF!

Anyone who writes software knows that the ONLY software that REALLY pushes hardware, are computer games. Doom did it back in 1993, Doom 3 did it a few years ago, and now Vista has given both a run for the money by being the only OS on the market with hardware requirements topping most 3D games.

Why is this aloud? Why doesn't anyone ever get mad and say something? Is the thought of 12 people saying you're a big meanie head for bashing Windows REALLY worse than spending 300 dollars upgrading hardware to make it happy?

I wasn't born with enough middle fingers, but I was born with a big enough mouth to cover it anyway.

Lol, come on now, servers are supposed to push processor, RAM, and HD speed, but they don't get to touch video. It takes a big game to push ALL the hardware. Or....Now anyway....Vista.

Yeah, gore, ur right... ur always right ...XOXOXO

    "Seriously this is just crap"
WTF! I guess there aint too much to do in dumbf@ck Michigan expect playing games.

BI apps have been pushing hardware since Dr Codd invented SQL.
Data warehouses, Data mining, GIS, fuzzy logic all consume whatever you throw at it.

Oh and, Have a nice day ...insert official Jersey bird here.

    Uhhh wow. That was odd.

I point out I have shitty hardware that can't run new stuff and the first assumption is that all I do is play big games? None of my machines have more than 512 MBs of RAM....What new game am I going to be able to play on that that was released in the last year? Seriously?

And I'm always right? That's odd, I not only haven't argued with anyone on here in over a year almost, I also haven't said a word other than helping a few people out who asked. So where is that coming from exactly? ou're going to cop an attitude with me saying I'm always right when I haven't said a word but once in the last month?

Lol, Good job on reading what I said. I managed to get two people to say the exact same thing, in that "All I do is play games" when the first thing I pointed out about hardware is that mine sucks.

So guess where you can stick that finger? While you're spinning read what I actually said....And I'll try and re-read what I said too so I can see how the **** both of you could take "My hardware sucks" and come out with "All he does is play hardware and resource intensive games"...

Oh, and that bit about coding games being the main way to grab hardware resources, just for the record, Linus Torvalds said that. It's in the book "Just for fun".

If Linus is a bad programmer or doesn't know anything about software, then I'll say I'm wrong. But the chance of that happening seems pretty damned slim doesn't it? He said games have always been the resource consumers when it came to computers.

But look on the bright side, I said no one ever gets mad anymore and voices an opinion, yet both of you need me to collect my hooks, lines, sinkers, and in some cases, the ****ing boat.
