Palm "Phreaking"
Hey All,
I wasn't able to sleep last night and thought of this. Was wondering if anyone else might be able to help out on this theory.
As the title sais, I was wondering if we could turn the Palm Pilots, or the Visors, etc. into a phreaking "box" (of sorts) to use on payphones?
I don't plan on screwing the phone companies, but was wondering if it's possible?
We've all see it in movies like Hackers and Takedown, someone records the tones the money makes when droped into the payphone and play those tones with a tape recorded to the receiver.
My thoughts are, can the Palm play those tones at the right frequency?
I was thinking that maybe the Palm app miniPiano might be able to do something along those lines. Play the correct tones and save the file for future reference.
What do you think? Can it be done? Is it a good idea?

most of the pay phones right now have a block for that (using a red box) but im gunna tell you this, its not impossible=) and good job to you for thinking it up with a palm, play with the tones a bit and you should be able to do it. the block doesnt allow the tones to be played but find an older fone and you should be ok. happy phreaking =) and remember, if you do make a box, only use in emergencies.

Palms, specifically, probably aren't loud enough. I know you can't do the DTMF tones with them loud enough. Thats why there is no phone dialer app. I think the red box tones would have to be about as loud. Oh, BTW, phreaking is wrong, wrong wrong.........

You could still hook a palm into a payphone and make a wardailer or a beige box couldn't you? I hear there are languages that lets you program through a palm so makeing a application that dails should be faily simple.

I know that phreaking is wrong, and even if I wanted to phreak a payphone, Bell Canada has since ensured that from working.
I was more curious on the idea of posibility. Is the Palm loud enough? Can it reach the 2000+ frequencies? And so forth.
Also, because of this tread, I've gotten another phreaking idea from an AO member, The Specialist. Good idea. The only thing I can wonder about is how? Would we be stuck with using cellphones (and a large bill) or is there a hook-up device to do this? (I didn't mention the sync possibility because why wouldn't you just do it with your box?)

L0pht wrote a pretty good war dialer for the palm. I'd still rather have my zaurus, however

is there an audio out on some Palms, Visors?
if so, it'd be a good idea? Btw- does any one
know how to generate two tones at once?
Most palm apps are written in java right?
yeah, I\'m gonna need that by friday...

Somehow, I don't think so, I believe that most Palms use simple PC Speaker like outputs for their sounds, and I can't see something that simple output two sounds...
