Want to change the blue screen of death red etc.! This is just for fun now...[get Linux for a constant solution].

Ok, here goees

Edit the SYSTEM.INI file in the Windows directory

In the [386Enh] add the entries

MessageTextColor=X
MessageBackColor=X

Where X is add the following number to change.

Black=0
Blue=1
Green=2
Cyan=3
Red=4
Magenta=5
Yellow/Brown=6
White=7
Grey=8
Bright Blue=9
Bright Green=A
Bright Cyan=B
Bright Red=C
Bright Magenta=D
Bright Yellow=E
Bright White=F

By the way I got this off a good friend and I dont take credit for it.

The problem with that is that then everyone will want their computers to crash so they can see the different color...

since when has it been hard or taken long for windows to crash, they will be able to see those colors in no time.

How about a little registry hack to enable crash on demand - http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/856/

Yeah, I've already got my Win98 system set to crash to red and white instead of blue and white. Some people sort of freak when they see it, wondering what went wrong. I guess it's because red looks more threatening. (Don't get me wrong, I have pretty decent uptimes, most of the time I don't have an RSOD during a typical 9-hour time when my comp is on)

I changed those options... and now i cant get the stupid thing to crash.. maybe i should have left XP on..

You Know Windows XP is the source to all your problems. Delete it

i dont see how windows crashing is BAD per-se. i mean if yoy really wanna see a bluescreen (or red or bright purple for all i care) of (near) deaththen just stick a floppy in and open a file off it and as its reading it eject the floppy... then it calmly (bluescreen of death) asks for the floppy back in a way that only a true geek would ever label their floppys with.

Interesting registry hack....but by the time I reach the blue screen of death I'm already that angry @ the pathetic Windoze box that I wouldn't care if it was red, green, yellow, black or even pink!

Funny how you mention Linux in your post. Notice that one of the screen savers that come with Red Hat by default is actually the blue screen of death..

Do you see the irony??? DO YA SEE IT MAN!?

A simple way to make a computer crash is to run a program from you A:\ drive (3.5inch floppy) and then just take it out.
