Enclosed is a text version of Configuring DNS. Within the document you may view a detailed description of DNS and its common tools. Both helping you to understand and enable this service for LINUX. Dont be scared.

This presents the basics. A good starting point but DNS has a lot more to it. Especially with Windows now integrating it into Active Directory Services more people need to develop an understanding of this fundamental topic.
For people who may have gotten their curiosit piqued by your post, here's a link that provides a little bit more information and will lead logically into further exploration of this topic.

Actually I have one that i have used in the past that I found very helpful. It explains how dns works, to setting up your own domian or cahing dns server. Gets into some pretty good detail as in adding forwarders...etc. Maybe take a look at it while your at it ;)
