Greetings All:

Now you can have a scrolling ticker of all the latest posts on AntiOnline. Keep up to date, without having to reload the main page! This only works for Windows users, sorry.

Right click on your windows task bar.
Select ToolBars ---> New Toolbar.
In the location field, type http://www.AntiOnline.com/ticker.php
Hit OK
Resize the window so that you can see all of the text.

If it starts scrolling really fast, just move your mouse over the box, then away, and it'll go back to normal speed.

Enjoy!

Greetings:

No, you do not have to be logged in for the ticker to work, and the ticker doesn't log you in or anything like that.

for *nix users, just open the url in a browser window, you don't need the ticker and it'll still show you the active threads.
:)

Nice feature JP. For linux users, just open the url http://www.antionline.com/ticker.php in a new browser window. It will open up a new window whenever you use it so there shouldnt be a problem. Good job JP.

Sorry jcdux, i didnt see your post there first.

Same for mac users using IE 5.. ;)

Yaaay. I previously did this by parking opera on the "results of get new posts" search, and setting it to not download images, and setting it to refresh every X seconds (customizable). But I guess this is even better in terms of bandwidth!.... Refreshing every 3 minutes? That's far too long! :D

Short Suggestions:

Append the name of the last poster on. It makes it a lot easier to work with. I mean, for instance, you reply to a post. Someone else replies to the same post. You don't see a difference on the screen, because it's the same post name.

Also, it shows the Usenet posts too... :( If they stay, maybe add a tiny icon to show that it isn't part of the forums?

Neato little trick JP, keep on innovating :)

One thing: When I put the ticker in the window, it was only two lines tall. Perhaps a way to make it a few lines longer if in a seperate window?

Other than that, really cool.

Just one thing - when I click on a link in this toolbar, it opens up the page in IE for me. I always use Opera and have it set up as my default browser, but these AO ticker links always open up in IE - am I missing something here, is there a way to make it open up in Opera or not??

Thanks,
Greg

Disclaimer: This should work in theory, I havent tryed it yet. Use at your own risk.

You will probably have to change the default application in the file types dialog box..I don't know if there is an easier way or not...since I havent used Opera enuff to really know it well.

In explorer...Tools...Folder Options...File Types...find the extension that you need to change...
click Change...and then navigate to the exe file for Opera. At least thats how it works in W2k..I believe that its pretty close to that for Win9x...

Edit The links are .php estensions..you mey have to create a new file type association.

(Almost) like Terr said, get rid of the usenet posts + make it refresh more than once every 3 minutes!
My own £0.02: Make it scroll horizontally!

I would also really like to see USENET posts not featured in this AO ticker. I only ever read and post on AO forums, only once in a blue moon would I post in USENET in the ticker, you can't identify the difference between USENET and an AO Thread. If you aren't gonna get rid of them, it would be good if somehow you can make USENET posts stand-out, so we know that they are USENET posts - something simply like a (U) at the begining or end or something.

I noticed in the ticker you added the username of the person who last replied to the thread. Very nice addition, makes it much easier - keep the innovations coming! :)

Greetings All:

Ok, I've filtered the usenet posts out of the ticker, and added the last user to post as well. Hope that helps!
