I would go for Dreamweaver and Frontpage. However, I encourage people to first learn raw html coding, bec. it will be very useful later on when it comes to editing.

I use dreamweaver and a program called textpad. I usually use dreamweaver for the main layout and then use the text editor for the intecrate bits!!

I think the developers name says it all.

It is such a nice little text editor, I use it for HTML, C, what ever I need to do with text that is quick and dirty.

I wish I had 99 bucks to get the Pro version, that has all that nice pretty stuff where lines are colored by tag and such, so you can see if you left something hanging really easily.

But as I am poor, and need OS X, I will live with Light. (Which when I get OS X will run happily there too).

I'm a "notepad" type of guy. But notepad looks a bit 'bland' don't you agree? So I decided to search around and got this great program called CuteHTML. It's an 'advanced notepad' you might say. I love programming in raw HTML, so I use that. I have Dreamweaver though....but I usually don't use that. Come to think of it...I never use that. Thanks for reminding me to uninstall that. But for newbies, Dreamweaver is the way to go - I just prefer having TOTAL control over my webpage...in code. CuteHTML is really great with this. Has room for editing raw HTML code...and some advanced options to help the newbies along as well. Although I'm no newbie, I tend to use them quite a bit. :)

Check up on Google for it. Really great program.

I think that dreamweaver is the best of the wisywigs out there as it does write proper HTML and can even clean up word HTML. It also doesnt add stupid empty tags and extra lines of HTML. Although i do still prefer using a text editor such as textpad (includes useful syntax highlighting i.e. Missed end " youll find it easily!!) It can also write C++ etc. It has useful add ons that you can download from the site.

I can't believe you didn't include 1st Page 2000 from Evrsoft (http://www.evrsoft.com/) in the poll. It's by far the best editor I've ever used (and I've used a lot in the last 4/5 years, from WYSIWYGs to plain text editors), with full syntax support and highlighting. Much better than Frontpage which just makes a total mess of your code or Dreamweaver which punches a massive hole in your wallet before you've even started building a site.

One that's been missed, and is more than just an HTML editor: EditPlus (http://www.editplus.com). I use it for everything here, and I write ASP, PHP, Java, C, HTML, etc... It's got a LOT of useful features like vertical selection, great code highlighting, etc., etc..

It's worth checking out if you write a lot of code.

big fan of Homesite. pretty much nothing you can't do with it. also a big fan of Textpad.

yep..it's always winning editors choice awards....homesite is CF Studio's little brother...both made by allaire...before macromedia bought them...

i can't wait to get me hands on Macromedia ColdFusion 5 UltraDev 4 Studio (could they have picked a dumber name...

they've rolled CF Studio into ultradev which should make it kickass...

WYSIWYG....no way. I tried Dreamweaver, it had too many options for me, its sometimes easier to do a simple command in html than using dreamweaver. For all who think html is a programming language, it is not. It is a formatting standard. To edit html, i use any text editor readily available. So if Im on linux, windows, or mac, I can still create web pages. Tell me any wysiwyg that can do that.

I agree, advanced editor is *almost* perfect. I use it all the time for development (mainly when I'm programming in Perl or PHP), it's quick to load and hasn't crashed yet (unlike every editor (WYSIWYG or not) that I've used in Windows!).

It seems that you just have to go with what you are used to and can work well with. I prefer using a mix of wisywig and text editor.

I have Dreamweaver...Fireworks...Photoshop...Flash...ColdFusion...various ULead programs...Adobe GoLive...InDesign...PageMaker...FreeHand...Macromedia HomeSite 5(my fav second of notepad)...LiveMotion...Premiere 6.0...it's just that I have so many programs to learn...that I scare myself and stick with what I'm familiar with...notepad...

#1, that baby picture i thoroughly disgusting, some kind of warning about the nature of the content of the site might've been nice.
#2, I don't really like the layout of the site. It's pretty basic and nothing really make it very pretty.
#3, You have one hell of an annoying javascript. Try not forcing windows on people and you'll get a lot farther.

Generally, I use dreamweaver 4 in conjunction with a program called "Topstyle".
Topstyle is kind of CSS-Editor better than dreamweaver's built-in editor. you can validate your css online or offline. i don't like frontpage because of the fat code it produces.

I use FrontPage in Windows, assorted text editors in Linux (and some other program that I can't remember the name of) and I use notepad, or KEdit for the final tweaking of the code, and for JavaScript, although I use FrontPage's code editor for JavaScript usually cause it highlights things different colours so I can easily see where I am!!

I'm still learning HTML and working on my first site. I've been using Notepad. I did download a freeware editor called First Page. It's a lot of bells and whistles. But I'm still using Notepad. I may eventually use First Page some because it has some preloaded Java scripts. But my site is on my ISP's server and they won't let you use scripts. My favorite html editior would have to be.. notepad, dreamweaver & frontpage.

notepad= very easy to customise html, and scripts.

frontpage= nice use of tables, and dhtml.

dreamweaver= my favorite, for customizing my php scripts, and other various scripting.
