Greetings All:

* You may have noticed that the site was down from late last night, until around 1pm (est) today. I converted all of our databases from MyISAM to GEMINI. You should notice a HUGE difference in speed because of this. MyISAM type tables only supported table-level locking, while GEMINI ones support row-level locking. Very cool. (more details at NuSphere (http://www.nusphere.com/products/mysqladv.htm) if you're interested)

* I've added a "print" icon to each post, so instead of having just being able to get a print-friendly version of the entire thread, you can get it for any particular post. I think this will be especially helpful for things like tutorials posted by users, etc.

* I've increased the number of PMs that each user can have in their boxes to 500. (I added another scsci drive last night, so I thought I'd pass the extra space on to you!)

Excellent. I will have to try it on the mac browsers to see how the speed increases work there (I saw most of my slowdowns on that machine not on my intel type machines). =)

It seems much faster on my machine (Mac OS 9.2.2 with Opera 5.0), but it was pretty damn fast to begin with...

Yesterday I was disappointed since I noticed this only getting very slow but I guess it was only because of everyone trying to access AO at the same time after the downtime... which reminds me, the only info about the downtime was that it would last some 10 hours: no info about when it started!
