Step one: Unbend paperclip.
Step two: Insert in socket.
Step three: Pray to the Gods of hacking
Step four: Throw your computer out the window and stop asking idiot questions.

To secure a network completely, once and for all, just turn it off...... As for the other questions, I'll let those lie.

Well, throwing the computer out the window would indeed secure it. Nobody would be able to get into it...</removes tongue from cheek> Just didn't bother to mention neither would you.
As far as cracking another computer, I think it's been covered (repeatedly) (over and over and over and over again) (by numerous people)(on multiple threads)(over a period of months) that the purpose of this site is not to teach script kiddies. Then again, I'm still a newbie...I could be wrong...

Well let's see... to secure your home network, that should a simple one.
1) Do not go online.
2) Do not install software.
3) Do not go online.
4) Do not power on.
5) Do not go online.
6) Do not download anything.
7) Do not go online.
Y'know, as many posts as there are on this site, as well as tutorials, howto's, and general discussions, I would think LOOKING AROUND might answer your question.
Better still, here's a better security tip for you:
1) Disassemble the network
2) Put it in a box, or multiple boxes if neccessary
3) Wrap boxes from step 2 in Duct tape(tm)
4) Place boxes from step 3 in a closet.
5) Lock closet door.
6) Dispose of key, preferably over a large body of water.
As far as cracking a network without Admin priv, well, I'm not going there. It's been stated repeatedly that this site doesn't teach Script Kiddies.

If you really want to know how to secure your home network you need to give up more info like what OS you are running on your home network and what if any firewall you have and so on. But the best way to see if your computer is secure is do a self audit. Trying to hack yourself is pointless, also there are sites out there that can check your security. Just give them your IP and they will show you most of your flaws.

Here are a couple that I found with a simple search with google.
Also you might want to check on external firewalls.
