Norton has just detected a 'w32.Magistr.39' virus. I have been searching on google and have yet to find info on it specifically. Does anyone know about this one?

It is usually best to look for virus information on the webpage of the vendor you are using as different vendors call virii by different names.

Tried searching myself but couldnt find any documentation specific to this worm.
Check out Symantecs virus encyclopedia

i don't know about the .39 portion of that but if you searched google with just w32.Magistr
you would of seen quite a few links.. one of them being to 'w32.Magistr.39921@mm which is a variant of W32.Magistr.24876@mm.

Thanks for all the quick responses. I did find it on the symantec virus encyclopedia. I guess the remainder of the filename was cut off when reading from the Norton quarantine window. The full name is 'W32.Magistr.39921@mm'

your best bet is to go round all the good av companys site, they always have listings of viruse.or try the wild list.

this is the info e-trust site has on it:

http://www3.ca.com/virusinfo/Virus.asp?ID=6076

were u able to clear it? and what AV were u using. just curious? :) :)

I am not sure how it happened but the virus didn't infect the machine or spread. Somehow NAV got it before it did its business. :)

Ah....Chrisr....That's what an Anti-Virus program is suppose to do. Make sure you keep your definition files up-to-date (at least weekly).
