Greetz!!

Just wondering what the ppl, who make AO the best security site around, think of which is the best all-round spyware remover.

Thanks (in advance) for your feedback :)

I've used Ad Aware for quite some time and I have always been a big fan. Then I tried out Spybot recently and I foond that it does a superior job of removing spyware. I'd go with Spybot S&D.

I had also used Ad-Aware freeware version for about two months, but when I hered about Spybot S&D, I checked it out and am now useing it, have been useing spybot for about a year. I prefer it. I like the interface beter, has alot of controlls and features along the left plain which is an atractive feature to me.

Im very pleased about the feature where you can read more inforation about a spyware component that was found. So my votes got to Spybot.

I actually use both. I run one first and then the other. Each has found stuff that the other one didn't.

I use them both since they each have some minor weak points!

Using them both covers it all!

Seems that ad-aware consume higher CPU usage, just try spybot and I will give spybot a vote.

Definitely Spybot S&D. But won't hurt to use both ( that's what I'm doing.)

spybot all the way on the computers on my network

i give each one a scan with adaware each month as a secondary measure but it has never picked up anything that spybot S&D hasnt
but and this is a big but, spybot has picked up things that adaware has missed!

Spybot s&d.. prefered.. though I find some of my customers find the Adaware interface easier to understand and use.. Have had fully updated versions of each and tested on the same system ( Cloned HDD's, tested XP home, Win98) both cleaned. BUT the Spybot cleaned xp home worked first go.. adaware failed on a package from eAccelerate, had to do a recovery and finish the clean by hand, registry fixes and file replacements..

Verdict: Spybot S&D for Me, and adawre v6 for those who are blind..
I won't have a chance to run these tests again for a couple of months, my busiest time of year. And to test these properly requires a bit of setting, not to mention setting evaluation criteria..

I have to go with the majority, as I did the same thing...I used Ad-Aware for about 6 months, then someone gave me a link to spybot, and I've used it ever since. However, I put Ad-Aware on my parents computer, and my sisters, as they fall into the "blind" category that Undertaker was talking about, and it does a decent job, certainly better than nothing. I guess it just depends on your comfort level, but personally I prefer Spybot.

This is what i do aswell. I prefer Sybot, but i would never stop useing Adaware. When i run Spybot, i immediately run Adaware right behind it, and it seem's to find one more piece of spyware that wasnt picked up, and visa versa. Sorry about the redundancy here, but i wouldnt ditch one over the other, i would just keep using both.

WOW, thanks for the responses!

I must confess, I read a bit further (it was under the heading of 'This is me spamming' in the Antivirus section) and this person posted the same question (although not in 'poll' form). I thought I'd get flamed for posting and not reading first.

:spank:
I's sorry.
:spank:

I guess I also wanted to know the reasons for people's prefs. I have come to the conclusion that as Framework (and others) said, "just use both" is probably the safest option. The safest way not always being the fastest way. I prefer security.

Anywayz, thanks for every1's input. Greatly appreciated.

Spyware out there....

I use both, what one doesn't catch, the other will, and that's good enough for me.

I'm using both too... They find a little different things... Spybot doesn't look at IE cookies but Ad-Aware cleans every doubleclick.com & the kind cookies. Spybot on the other hand does some general security updates by tweaking registry settings. Those have to be done only once so the first time you run it it look like it found a lot of "spyware" (if you had read the texts you would have noticed that they were only security fixes) and was better than Ad-Aware. I think as for the real spyware proggies they both find the same ones.

If you really want your pc to be clean, you should use both on a regular basis.

Edit/Add: D'oh, that poll doesn't have the option "Both". I guess I'll vote for Spybot as it is somewhat faster thus more comfortable to use (makes me think that Ad-Aware is slower because it scans more throughly..).

I also use both but I use ad-aware more often. I voted ad-aware.

Well, I've been using Adaware for quite a long time, and figured both these proggies were about the same. After reading all these post, though, I'm probably going to start using both. Thanks for making me a believer everyone. :)

well kind of related to this, and probably a bit late to actually stir up a discussion, but I figure I'll try anyway.

Has anyone here used Stopzilla for this? They claim to remove Spyware, Adware, Cookies, History, and Popups. I use opera so I'm not worried about popups or History, and I used Spybot S&D for Spyware... but so far I haven't really found a good cookie control program. It gets rather tedious clicking through the myriad of cookie requests on every site I visit.

I wonder how their Spyware stacks up to Adaware and Spybot. I guess I could download it and let everyone know the differences that I find with the three pieces of software, unless someone has already done this before.

I use both but most Ad-aware 6.0. I used once Spybot to immunize and i run it when i am sure that i have spyware, but before that i use Ad-Aware.

I use them both also,

they each pick up things, adaware worked first for me, then i found spybot, and I keep them updated, they both work really well.

I like the way SpyBot blocks dodgy ads as they appear and the file shredder is handy also.

I use both. I have Spybot set up to run every time I startup, as it's faster than Adaware. I run Adaware about every three days or if I get a prob. It occasionally gets something that slips by Spybot. Recently, I had a problem ridding myself of "Whatzit" resetting my homepage when I used IE (which is rare). The most recent Adaware update caught the prob, but Spybot missed it. I really appreciate the additional tools, like the shredder in SB. Go for both to be safe. They're small downloads, and small programs, so what the hey?
