www.pricewatch.com is, in my humble opinion, the ultimate source of computer paraphenalia. Just to give you an idea of how truly nice it is, when I built my most recent (personal) system it cost me 1300 bucks (including shipping)....an Alienware system of the same stature was selling for almost 5 grand. The only caveat I would add would be to pay close attention when buying your m/b and/or processor....the cheap ones only have a 30 to 90 day warranty....splurge a little and buy products with a longer warranty period.

twot I have to personally say that if you are going to send anything. You should build it your self you will pay less and you get to customize it more. Now when you say this is my pc you mean it you built it. Now for the tools to build it PM me and I will give you a couple good links.

Listen to allen on this one.
You will find cheap products via pricewatch but, if you buy products that say house brand, or generic your system is not going to last you very long. Make sure you buy quality parts.
I did pretty much the same thing that allen did with my computer. I spent 1300 on a computer that goes for 3500 if you buy from Alienware.
Heres a website that I use a lot, they have reasonable prices, and good products

I recomend that you build it yourself that way there you will be learning about computers and you can brag to your friends that you built this monster machine and who knows they might be jealous of you Hehehe :D

I gotta go with deadaddict and whizzkidd on this one. Building your own if you have never sone it before can be a really fun experience.

If nothing else buy a "barebones" kit (tigerdirect) and outfit it yourself. If you are going to use a "fine microsoft operating system", they'll give you the oem price.
By building it yourself:
you'll learn what this "thingmajig" or that "firmadoodle" is.
you'll have backup media ( a lot of mfr's don't include it anymore)
bragging rights
Besides it's not as difficult as changing a headlight on a minivan

I purchased my gaming PC from www.jktechs.com. It's a custom build site and offers the lowest price I could possibly find. You should definetly check out the site.

If anyone lives in Vancouver B.C. the two absolute best places to go are Atic and NCIX, www.atic.ca (http://www.atic.ca) and www.NCIX.com (http://www.ncix.com) . Somebody told me that Atic had some sort of Chinese laundering scheme going on but, doesn't bother me they still have the best prices around. Compare them with pricewatch allen. You might be surprised. Apparently they ship straight from the factory in Malaysia or Asia or somehwere down there.

Small point on building a PC vs buying one. If you build your own....YOU have to handle all the warranty returns either to the shop where you bought the parts.....or directly with the manufacturer.
Hey cheyenne1212......I'm kinda chuckling over your offer to build a PC......and you're other post about reversing the floppy cable; and poof went the system. No offence; just humourous

I never buy a new computer as a whole. I usually buy parts once in a while, to upgrade the computer. I use the old parts to make "new" low end computers and put them in my home network. Average, I spend about § 250 a year on hardware.

Well u know the quality of the product u buy when u get it for dirt cheap...at least when u know ur payin a decent amount ur gettin ur money's worth rather than a bargain piece of crap. Just sayin cuz all u guys seem to say build ur own and save money...if u wanna build ur own...build ur own cuz u want to learn or just customize it...dont do it for the pricing.

A group called bluse star productions do a traveling computer show, the dealers there do great deals (especialy if you pay in cash). Just don't ask too many questions about where they got the parts (a lot of fell off the back of a truck type deals), or if they charged you sales tax.
y recomandation if you go would be too payin cash as I wouldn't trust those guys with my credit card number..but I did get a AMD 1700+ with 512 ram (on board video and sound that I replaced later) for $200

Do what Allen said. Build your own. First thing you need to get is the motherboard and make sure to read the manual because it's gonna tell you the kind of ram and the kind/speed of CPU it supports. Plus there's pictures on where to shove the rams, wires and jumper set up. There's no way you can go wrong ;) . You can also get a cheap 300 watts PSU case for $30 :D

I built my own. Thats the cheapest way. You want to take your time when building your PC. You wanna hit all the online stores, and even a few mom and pop stores, sometimes you can find a deal or two there. Ebay, Pricewatch, Newegg, Directron,Amamax, all online stores that you cant afford to not take advantage of.
1.) Mother Board and Processor Combo (199.99+shipping on ebay)
Asus A7N8X Deluxe nForce2
AMD 2400 XP Proccesor (1.94ghz)
2.)DDR RAM 512mb (48.00+shipping on ebay)
3.) Video Card (64.99+tax)
GeForce Fx 128mb 5200
4.)ATX Case (65.50+arm/leg)
Colorcases.com has the coolest cases, however they took 2 months to send the case. Heres a link to my case. Its pretty badass. But NEVER order anything from these guys. I'll link the consumer report on these guys too.

After all that is aquired, you could do like i did and use your old drives. If not, there are cheap drives out there. The moral of the story is, my computer is pretty badass, and it was dirt cheap. There are ways to break the laws of Retail. You just have to look.
Another thing, If your buying something from an onine store, you want to research that re-seller/online store at the following website. This is also where you can see the TERRIBLE reveiw of colorcases.com
