roaming network configuration?
Hello everyone,
Is there a way to set up like roaming network settings or something, since the network settings are different when I am at work then when I am at home?
I don't think I can use hardware profiles, because I can't disable any of them because I need to use the same device at home...
Btw, I'm using a Windows 98 laptop.
Thanks

AFAIK, you have to manually change your network settings when you change networks.
You can use DHCP to do this too, but if you are on separate domains... you are going to run into problems. You will still have to manually change the domains with win9x boxes.
I have never tried this... so I might be wrong... but I think I'm on track.
Anyone else have any opinions/solutions for what he is trying to do?
Another idea that springs to mind is... network cards. If your laptop has a network card built in... use that for work. Then get a pcmcia card and configure that for your home network. Then plug in the cables to the correct cards depending on which network you are using. You can also do this with 2 pcmcia cards, but I'd recommend using two different models/brands so it is easier to keep track of.
I think you will still have the domain problem though... as you can only belong to one domain or workgroup at a time.

I agree with the above link. I have tried several Programs over the years, IMHO NetSwitcher (www.netswitcher.com) is the best out there today. Symantec used to have a better product (Mobile Essentials) but it has been discontinued.
Hope this helps.
