We have given pest patrol a trial run and no one is satisfied with it. Would there be any others that you guys could reccomend for a lan with 250+ pc's and ~50 servers?
Thanks

Perhaps the Professional version of Ad-aware would be suitable for your office:

Ad-aware Professional Edition is designed to provide continuous protection from known Datamining, aggressive advertising, Parasites, Scumware, Keyloggers, selected traditional Trojans, Dialers, Malware, Browser hijackers, and tracking components and allows you to:
Scan mapped drives from one central location.
Customize your preference and configuration files for remote AND local scanning
Have complete flexibility in where you save your log files, including the ability to store them in remote locations.
Store and read reference files from any location in your network. You can also use MULTIPLE reference files for customizable scanning and troubleshooting.
Use specially created plug-ins designed to extend the functionality of the Professional edition for the average to the most advanced user. Visit our Plug-ins page to obtain more information about available components

I've been with Ad-Aware for over three years now and have been very satisfied with it. Ad-Aware 6.181 (latest) "Pro" has an auto-update feature so you're never behind-the-times with the reference files.

It's fast, efficient, doesn't take much overhead, has multiple levels of scanning (light, deep, etc), lots of options for advanced users and comes packaged with Ad-Watch, which is a realtime running prog that will either question anything/everything that's installed into the registry OR it has an auto-block feature that just outright denies everything going into the registry, a feature that's handy to have but a pain if you're installing something like Norton and everything has to be registered.

I've heard good things about Spybot too, but I stick with Ad-Aware. It's never let me down.

I also recommend Ad-aware, it's easy to use even the most computer illiterate can use it.
and it's saved my arse a few times.
But i guess that would be the case when you are continually downloading porn..

cheers

I don't have the number of computers that you and others do, but, I use both adware and spybot. They co-exist quite well and one will find junk that the other doesn't. And throw in a Good AV and I'm happy.

I downloaded Adware 6 and it seems to be a nifty peice. But we're looking for centralized management for our workstations. Does adware pro allow you to scan, schedule, and set all pc's from a central location or server?

Ok.....I've DL'ed a copy of the full pro version of adaware and presented to the Director and the CIO, but they were not happy with it because we need something that is centrally managed and something that requires no user interaction. Preferably an app that would run in the background. Is this wishful thinking? Is there an appliance that I could put between the firewall and the router that would stop adware/malware/etc in it's tracks?

As of yet no spyware scanner approches adequate in real-time removal The best you can hope for is after the fact detection and removal NAV 2004 is a virus scanner that also detects soe adware/spyware/malware It is NOT coprehensive but is realtime Good luck

Adaware can be set to run on startup, and it has something called Ad-watch that will run in the taskbar constantly. Sure you can't controll it from a central computer, but if it is doing the scan automatically, why bother?

# Lock down sensitive areas in your memory and registry to keep them from being compromised!
# Real-time blocking of browser hijack attempts and drive by downloads!
# Real-time blocking of forced installations and activeX!
# Includes an all new, highly flexible and configurable interface!
# Includes a powerful popup-stopper!
# Seamless integration with Ad-watch!
# Free e-mail support

That was from Lavasoft's main page

Also Check here for some configuration options you can set.

I have a question about Ad-Aware. I was using the free version to get rid of some adware I had that was slowing down my Internet connection. It found 150 items (about half of them cookies) and I got rid of them. Afterward, I tried running my Internet again to see if it was faster, but my Internet didn't work. I tried re-installing Internet Explorer, and I could dial on fine, but I couldn't get any sites to load. I don't know if this was connected or not, but my Microsoft Office soon stopped working after that. I've reformatted my computer and got everything back to normal, but I was wondering what you guys thought about that.

Edit: The adware I got had this address: 209.50.251.182 which is an ad server and I hve seen it also on several school computers, getting through the school's many filters.

Like everyone said, Ad-Aware is the one of the BEST if not the best!

nods head, yep it is the best. well i got it from the evil aol so i wasn't sure and i loaded another on from the internet, spyzapper(or some such thing). well i was shocked it found all these bugs, and spyware files that ad-aware had missed. actually the reason i tried them becuase i got a but from the search engine alexe (? i think, i'd never used them, but my son roams alot), and they were billed specifically to remove them. so anyway i load it and like i said it found loads of stuff. but when i turned around and ran ad-aware6 (just the free home one) - like i said i'm obsessed right now...low and behold the anti-spyware zapper program had infected my system with 18 spies, 3 in the registry....well it took me like about 3 hours to figure out to completely wipe this program off my system!!!!

its scarey, i've been saying to ppl all along in the last couple of weeks that this new wave of spies/viruses is a plot by business/the government...business to sell more of the product to kill the bugs they are placing, the government to try to limit and control internet access. we will have so much 'protection' we won't be able to do anything....now with what just happened, ummm....there may be some truth to it....

That's a matter of opinion. Spysweeper has caught stuff that Adaware missed. It also does processes already running in memory. www.spysweeper.com

I've tried Adaware and spybot S&D after getting spwysweeper and I haven't seen it miss any thing yet, then again I could be mistaken......but probably not. ;)

Dude I would recommend ad-ware as it is a very good software and can be downloaded from the website http://www.lavasoft.de/ you also can get the pro version if want to but the free version works very well. I also will recommend spy-bot which can be downloaded from http://beam.to/spybotsd this maximizes your chances of catching the “filth” (parasite) and deleting the parasites.

well i read your post a went ahead a loaded spysweeper on my system...and sure enough, with everyone else finding nothing they found:4 software problesm, 5 traces..one of them was the alexa toolbar, supposedly deleted by the evil co trapzappers, and also blocked by me on my computer, but i guess they can sneak in anyway...mainly it was cookies...i deleted it all.
i'll keep the rest but if spysweeper consistently finds things that ad-aware6 misses....
thanks for the tip....still learning

Ad-aware probably wiped out one of the commonly used .dll files that IE needs for browsing internet. Try to check quarantine and restore all dll files.

When dealing with spyware you should always have the following on your computer:

Removal
You should use both of these as they both tend to find some items that the other does not.

Ad-aware (www.lavasoftusa.com/ ) | Tutorial (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=48)

Prevention - Use these programs to prevent infection of malware

SpywareBlaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html) - This program prevents certain known malware from running on your computer | Tutorial (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=49)

SpywareGuard (www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html) - Acts as a real time scanner for Spyware and Hijackers that can along with your traditional virusscan | Tutorial (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=50)

IE-Spyad (http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm) - Large list of known malware sites. Puts this list into the restricted sites of IE | Tutorial (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=53)

I'm also searching for a spyware solution for multiple pc's that is managed or run from the firewall, proxy server or whatever. I'm trying out Pest Patrol Corp Edition V5. and I am not a fan so far. The product works for the most part, but it is clumsy to administer and the support thus far is less than stellar (no phone number for support, email only, that takes at least a day to get a response from). I am also test driving websense. It is a web filter, but they also have add ons for security, bandwidth and adware. Very promising, support is great, relatively easy to use, no client footprint. The only real downside is that it is expensive for 750 users it will run us about $14k plus a decent server. If you find anything, please post.

I have found spyblaster is an add-on that you have to have.

Kills active x controls that none of the others get.

i myself swear by spybot s&d, but it doesn't have a main control center or anything. you can run it at startup, and it has a background process that supposedly catches spyware. i try to stay away from sites that would normally have spyware/malware and/or any virii/trojans. Yeah... totally free, too. gotta love free!

Interestingly enough, hardly anyone is answering the man's question. heh.
He is asking for a 'commmercial' software that can be used in a multi-PC environment with real-time scanning and stuff. heh heh heh

Adaware, Spybot S&D and Spysweeper work great, and they co-exist well. I use all three of them, because.. well about 7 different people use my home PC. They usually end up catching stuff the others miss. Keeps my PC fairly clean, I must say.

Additionally, is anyone following this (http://www.antionline.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=259639) thread?
