Does anybody know of a IDS program for mac that I can get, preferably free?

Which OS? Pre-OSX or OS X?

If it's OS X, you might want to look at Snort on Mac (http://www.securemac.com/macosxsnort.php). The website this link is at also tends to be heavy for support for various Macintosh Security items and might help narrow your search down to others. :D
