In case you missed it last week, and the site-wide announcement expires before you're made aware, please have a look at our new Download Section. Details below, for posterity :)

Like our recent AO Tutorials (http://www.antionline.com/tutorials/) revamp, we've reworked (rebuilt actually) the AntiOnline Download area. You can reach it directly at:

http://downloads.antionline.com (http://downloads.antionline.com)

The new section is built to handle submissions better (still approved by us) and will be updated regularly. There are also sorting options (name, date, rating) along w/ a search function to help you find what you're looking for as the index grows and generally make things easier to navigate.

Don't worry, the old downloads section is still accessible here (http://anticode.antionline.com/download.php?) and it's been renamed Downloads Archive.

We got the ball rolling, now it's your turn. Encourage software makers and your fellow developers to submit (http://downloads.antionline.com/housekeeping/submit_new.asp) their security software. As always, we welcome your comments/suggestions.

Personally, I love the huge half-page ad running down the side. It ads character. AO's all about getting money for JupM now... no wonder I don't come here much any more. Along with many other older members. /me shrugs. Maybe I'm crazy.

You mean you had not notice that this place was a real un-organised, non-professional, piece of slop before this? It has always been like this... but I've been saying it for awhile now, with every change made to the site the worse it seems to get.

You should make the logo more open like in the downloads section of the site by getting rid of "enterpriseITplanet.com's" portion of the logo... most of the ownership of the site is already announced at the bottom of the page. Someone should also do something about how all the blue coloring which is counter acting with the older play-doh'-container look and feel of the site.

Dumbass.... It's a rotating ad..... look at it now..... I got Verisign... What do you get now????? :p

Hmmm... I dunno about that comment... Why is it "my turn"?

You created a centralized place that people can submit their product... But let's look at what you _did_.....

1. You created a place that free/shareware authors can submit a product
2. They submit the product with the link to it
3. I visit the download area and decide to download a product
4. The link I click is to the submitters site,
5. I use his bandwidth to d/l the product.....

Some questions.....

1. If this was truly a _resource_ why wouldn't you mirror the product?

2. You have more bandwidth than the average free/shareware author..... if the product is acceptable to you, (per your initial speech about being able to change or reject anything), then why wouldn't you give the author that help?

3. What does this "service" offer over and above my searching AO for "a program that does xxxxxxxx"?

4. If I'm not sure what to search on what is the point of it being ordered _only_ by submission date?

I dunno.... I think you just spent a lot of time creating a "feature" that is a step back in some ways and certainly is one that will be less used than a simple search that comes with recommendations by people that have used the product and can comment on it.

The "big guys" in the field like Fyodor etc. are not going to waste their time putting the quality products in there.... They don't have the time....

It seems like I could submit NMap on fyodor's behalf.... But that would be wrong.... and it isn't my job in this world.....

I fail to see what you tried to achieve here.... I think programming time could have been better spent....

But that's only my $2...... ;)

I bet that if AntiOnline would start hosting 4,000 GB of free pr0n for you guys to download, you would still complain.

Microburn > you have Google ads on your site... hypocrite :p And so does anotherlamesite.com, which takes half an hour to load...

TheSpecialist > I fail to see how JUPM claims to have "such a large hold over" the programs...

phernandez: Sorry, no offense man.. but the new downloads sections overall look and appeal sucks (especially the bottom portion). Just giving you some feedback, alot of the people I work with agree by the way that the overall look is quite ugly.

Ewww... that is horrible. I'd rather have the old downloads page back.

Is it possible that you can put an icon next to the products to let us know of the pricing?
Kind of how they do on the Top 75 security tools page. Icon for Linux, BSD, m$ and then a big $$ if the product costs money.

http://www.insecure.org/tools.html

Anyway... I haven't used that page since I stared coming here. I don't think I'll start now.
I'd rather see the community suggest products (like we do now) and then have a place to link them. Not have some company who has the leetest software out there that I absolutely can't live without.

I bet that if AntiOnline would start hosting 4,000 GB of free pr0n for you guys to download, you would still complain.

Maybe... depends on the *type* of pr0n you put up there.

Gotta start somewhere. These are the early stages (there are only a handful of progs ATM). And we're not aiming to be a downloader's paradise, just something computer security-related that over time people will find helpful.

Spyder32, no offense taken. The look is in keeping with the rest of AO, for the most part. A real departure would have had the villagers taking up their torches and pitch forks, no doubt. The servers can't take that kind of abuse ;)

Tiger Shark, we don't host because of constant updates (version 1.0, 1.0.1, etc.) and some devs require some sort of registration for a trial. The submitters furnish us with the URL. By and large, they are looking for more exposure, especially the smaller guys that are flying under the radar. We're trying to build something that's not too messy for either side.

We'll see how it goes, take stock and take it from there.

Instead of working to make AO forum better, you waste time doing worthless stuff. When I read the FAQ (Who navigation is a piece of shit), you can read the AO Message Board is a online communities about computer and network security. And really, where do you see computer and network security stuff on AO?? No where anymore.

Ohh, lots of half page ads, that's uber character. ;-)

Microburn > you have Google ads on your site... hypocrite:p And so does anotherlamesite.com, which takes half an hour to load...

Yeah, I have Google ads, but they're small, I'm not complaining about ads on websites, alot have them anyways, and sometimes they're interesting, but this one runs down half the page. :P And is kind of bulky and in the way... The Google ads shouldn't take that long to load. :O Do they?

Anyways, I was just being a jackass. :p

Sypder, yeap!

Yes, they get more traffic but are that quality traffic? I don't see any new member bringing new content here (Except IronGeek)! Heck, the last post in Security Tutorial Form is 6 days old! That said it all to me!

Heh, on my connection, google ads do take that long :P.... DAMN DIAL UP TO HELL!!! Or at least give me broadband, whichever is easier. Or both. I hate connecting at 28.8...

Oh well. I'm just ranting in an ignorant, meanless, off topic manner, which I think I should end. Whatever. Bye.

These are the early stages Actually this was said once the new logo was up I beleave. You say JupM shouldn't "rush things"... uhhh huhaha oh really? I know its hard to organise a site which chooses to have ads as large as what some of us are seeing which are always in the center areas of the site... or as far as colors go, is still stuck between a play-doh'-container and some light blue MS or UN type of color. But serious, when do you guys actually plan on making something that actually looks good?

The thing is we shouldn't NEED to have to use adblock to get rid of big, annoying ads. It's not so much the annoying of us, it's making new visitors turn up their nose. And we desperately need some new minds here...

And fyrewall, I'm sorry, but I think I would have to side with TheSpecialist on this issue... While he may be a negative, whining SOB, at least he admits it and can point out what's wrong with something.

TheSpecialist

Yeah, I've got something good to say, atleast JP isn't posting as much as he used to.

You will admit though that things looked alot better, even with the ads, things looked much better before people started implementing things such as "the thread AP system" which is basicly nothing but a large annoying row of letters spanning the top portion of my browser when I view threads.

I've given people tech-support here and made them look like idiots in the proccess and you've signed up here in what would seem like a week ago... I have a right to complain about this site's new frankenstien-ish half play-doh'-container half blue thingie look has. And really even that is not such a big problem either... making colors match could easly be fixed... I however don't think that certian things should randomly be added then un-improved and ignored within the year or two that JupM has owned the site and has had the chance to make things look better. We have things here that most members never knew was even on the site.

I mean, look around you man, why in the hell do we need two search bars cluttering things up. Look closely through that mess on the bottom of this page or else you might miss what im talking about.

LOL, no, I'm saying we have lost many a great mind, and are gaining too many not so great minds, and it would be nice to get some new great minds. Wow that's a lot of minds.
