Employer Can Force Women to Wear Makeup
source here
In an opinion likely to raise the ire of civil rights and feminist groups, a divided 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel ruled Tuesday that a woman who was fired from her job as a casino bartender for refusing to wear makeup cannot sue for sex discrimination.
I actually had to check the date on this story.. I can't believe this is actually happening here in the US in this day and age! How disgraceful! Men are merely required to present themselves as neat and clean (in this instance) yet women must present themselves with hair styled in a certain manner and makeup on.
The court ruled that this does not create an unequal burden on the women. Must have been a court of men.

Male bartenders, meanwhile, were required to wear their hair above the collar and keep their nails clean and neatly trimmed. Makeup, ponytails and nail polish were banned for men.
I think that they are discriminating against men by not allowing them to wear makeup.
Although, I dont agree with the judges opinion.

Hmmmm............................I have some very nice green and brown "foundation cream" and some black lipstick and tooth paint.....................
And, Meeeeee.......................has your wife ever stolen your nail varnish?............mine has!...........
out of my fishing tackle box! (good tip there, not security related , nail varnish is brilliant for repairing those expensive fishing floats and lures)
Seriously though, Meeeeee...............I can remember when women were not allowed to wear perfume, make-up, nylons etc, because it upset the little 16k computer
Happy new year

Unfortunately for those who choose not to wear it, "war paint" is widely accepted as "properly dressed" in modern culture. Had this particular female been a showgirl, the requirements for makeup I'm sure would have been very much more involved. I'm quite sure if I owned that same casino, I'd have required the same thing of my female employee. For that matter, if I owned a nudie bar...
I'm curious with the coming of "meterosexuals" if the no nail varnish rule will apply to men for very much longer, or if it will soon be lifted, and which male will have the testicular fortitude (lack?) to challenge it. I'm also quite surprised at the "no pony-tails" for men, as this has been publicly acceptable since the late 1970's.

CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, CNN are all guilty.

Are men in that Casino forced to be properly groomed? The bank I used to work for gave the manager of the branch the power to send a male home for not being properly groomed, I.E. not fixing their hair and/or not shaving.

The undue burden argument has some merit. But this court case is about discrimination based on sex. I don't see that, therefore I side with the court. This is a PRIVATE and ENTERTAINMENT based business.
Now what would be fair in my opinion, is this: if research states that females are indeed ober burdened with putting on some eye shadow or lipstick then perhaps they should be compensated a little more. Now to flip that, My clothes I have to maintain are wayyy more expensive than female clothes and shoes. You girls have clothes EVERYWHERE in every little corner on sale, reduced and pretty inexpensive compared to men. So perhaps that evens things out a bit?

HAH!
No but my hubby steals it for the same purpose
Tell him he is a cheapskate............................when I go in the drugstore I look in the 25-50cents bin and get it from there.............Being as how we are slightly more mature in life, there is no such thing as "yesterday's colours", so herself pinches my stocks.
When you think that you can spend $10 or so on a fishing lure, this makes sense.
The black lipstick is courtesy of the guys who supplied the uniform
An amusing anecdote (I hope) my next door neighbours' eldest was going to a "Goth Party"........she was very impressed by my black lipstick and green and black fingernail varnish...........I asked her if she wanted a GPMG (that's an M-60 to you lot) to go with it............
I DO NOT improve with age...............Happy New Year

EDIT:
Sorry Meeeeeeeeeeeeee, I did not spot this:
Men... It would take about 30 minutes for them to get ready
Err.........you have about two minutes?.............there are a few here who will understand that comment?
