The second AntiView in the row – more to come soon!
Born in Germany, British nationality and living in the US… That must be Tiger Shark!
Tiger Shark’s profile on AntiOnline (http://antionline.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=116721)
Name: Tiger Shark, (pleading the 5th on the real name - too easy to find me on the internet from previous lives - all above board I can assure you - but I don't really want my street address linked to this online personality....
Place and date of Birth (or age): Munich, Germany though I am British... My father was studying at university there.
Current place of residence:Detroit, MI, USA
Marital status: Single, and my sweetie and I intend to leave it that way for the foreseeable future.
AO: How did you get into computers?
Tiger: I started "playing" with them while in the military in 1982. I saw an ad for a Sinclair ZX-81 and thought it would be cool.... I was then given computer related tasks in the military when they came up.
AO: What is your area of specialty?
Tiger: My designated tasks within my company revolve around the network level... WAN's, LAN's, network level troubleshooting, firewalls, IDS, General Security, publicly accessible services such as email, HTTP, VPN etc.
AO: What do you do for a living?
Tiger: Manager of Information Systems.. Or, as I prefer to introduce myself in meetings, "Chief Geek"
AO: How did you get into your career?
Tiger: It was pure dumb luck. After getting to the USA I got a job as a Customer Service Rep for a micrographics company, (I needed a job... OK..). They had a Compaq "portable" that no-one was using, (a 286). It had DBase III on it and I started programming databases to help manage the customer base. Pretty soon I was the most proficient in the shop on their own computers/Novell network so they made me systems specialist. Then I was trained in their mainframe software we gave to clients and before long I was the District Systems Specialist for PA, DE, NJ, NY and RI.... Then I left there and got my current job as the Manager of Information Systems and have been here for the last 12 years.
AO: Describe your education and/or training?
Tiger: Err... Low... No degree. For the Brits here I have 5 O levels and the equivalent of a City and Guilds (grade 1(?)) in Aeronautical Science gained through my time flying in the Air Force.
AO: Do you plan on staying where you are (career-wise) or are you still in school / working on certs to get into another area?
Tiger: I like where I am... The pay is fine and the pressure is low. I really don't want to work 70 hour weeks but will do if I have to. Ten years in the military 24/7 sort of beat that "I must work every waking hour" thing right out of me....
AO: What one piece of advice would you offer to others who may be interested in following a career path or educational path similar to yours?
Tiger: If you don't love it you'll never be any good at it and if you aren't any good at it you will be paid what you are worth or less and will always be the first to be without a job in hard times. You have to want to visit http://isc.sans.org right after you get up every morning to see what is going on....
AO: What skill do you think is invaluable in your area of specialty?
Tiger: There's no single skill or quality in my opinion....
A good general knowledge of your systems and a detailed knowledge of how this "network thingy" works. Without them troubleshooting becomes "shooting in the dark" and security is simply impossible. Oh, and did I say you have to enjoy it..... Staring blankly at logfiles is mind warpingly boring if you either don't want to or you have no idea what you are looking at or for.... Then you need a healthy dose of suspicion in your personality, (paranoia can be a good thing), coupled with a healthy competitiveness, (they aren't going to beat me and get in here).
AO: Describe one of your best / most effective security practices.
Tiger: Attention to detail... though I am as guilty as the worst of us at being complacent sometimes. If you don't attend to the details someone you don't want attending to them might do it for you.... That would be considered a "bad thing"....
AO: Do you have a little-known fact about yourself (personal, hobbies, tech-related) that you would be willing to share?
Tiger: Little known... That would be something I don't "brag" about.... I cried my heart out each time I had to put my German Shepherds down both within 18 months, (Hank at 9 years with an incurable disease and Emma, (my first dog), at 14 years due to hip failure)... Yes, I am a softie.... But usually only with animals....
AO: How did you find Antionline?
Tiger: I don't remember, but it was probably dumb luck again... I get a lot of that in my life.... But that's ok....
AO: Anything else you'd like to share?
Tiger: I like beer and it seems to be quite fond of me too...

Black: If you have a knack and a love for computers, a good work ethic and a creative thought process, (for solving those odd problems or requests), then there are plently of opportunities out there.... If you find a good place to work then stick with it...
MLF: My sweetie put together a frame with nine pictures of my "puppies" and gave it to me for Xmas after Emma dies.... I left the room rather quickly after getting it because her whole family were there and cried again..... Now it holds pride of place in the living room but the damned cat, (my sweetie's), figures that sutting exactly in front of it is the best place to be.... Cats...
Gore: Is it possible all the most interesting people come from michigan... ;) That or all the biggest geeks.....

I must say that I have enjoyed this forum very much, reading the post of people like Tiger, Negative, Soda, Hertz, MsMittens and all the rest of you that I didn't mention, Antionline has been an escape for me and though I haven't been able to contribute much you will never know what this little place on the web has meant to me. So, Tiger and the rest of you I would like to say thank you. Sometimes you may only think you affect people in your job, etc. but it really is far reaching, I've learned alot from you all, I really don't know what I wanted to say besides thank you.

Heh, this reminds me of that commercial I saw during half time of the super bowl. This dude is preparing dinner for his girlfriend, and the cat gets up on the counter and knocks the red soup looking stuff off the stove and on the floor then jumps in it. Then the guy picks up the cat from the scruff and while doing this his girl friend walks in and sees the red stuff on the floor and him holding a cat with a knife haha... It's pretty funny...

I just saw that new retarded Ford convertible commercial on Super Bowl half... who in his right mind would ever buy a Ford, and even if someone would: who would buy a Ford after seeing that commercial?!? All I got from that commercial is: don't buy a Ford, cause it'll break down in the middle of the winter. They tip over, they break down in the middle of the winter, they are ugly... why???
Sorry. Rant over.

Me and Tiger Shark are both near the car Capitol; Detroit. And the only good American Cars are Muscle Cars. All other cars should only be bought from Germany, the hell with the rest they suck. BMW and McLaren F1. (The Engine for the McLaren F1 was built in Germany by BMW). ;)

I could have sworn it said BMW on the McLaren web site. Wait, I knew Mercedes did McLaren, but the McLaren F1 car's Engine I'm quite sure was built by BMW.
Either way both Companies are German. :)

What a message to send. Fire that ad agency Ford!
Sorry for the digression.
Tiger: good read...you and I have similar backgrounds (education, experience, etc). I've been at my current job for 6+ yrs, previous job 12...I just love what I do. So about cats...you sure you dont want a couple (more)? I'd love to get rid of my pesky ones...lol

That car can't compete with the one I was talking about:
http://www.mclarencars.com/content/sections/mainfr/cars.htm
http://www.mclarencars.com/content/sections/cars/f1/ff1fra.htm
"McLaren Cars commissioned the BMW S70/2 engine, designed and built specifically for the F1. This 6.1 litre, quad-cam, 48-valve V12 power unit produces no less than 627 bhp and drives through a bespoke six-speed transaxle gearbox. Radical design features include:
- Central driving position
- ‘Ground-Plane Shear' suspension geometry’
- intelligent brake cooling
- fan-assisted ground-effect aerodynamics
These and many more simply amplify the F1's purity as the ultimate "drivers car". "
http://www.mclarencars.com/content/sections/cars/f1/f1main2.htm
I've seen one. No car comes close or probably ever will. I've watched one take a corner at around 200, and not even skid..... And I drooled the whole time. And I quoted from the links I just gave, the engine was in fact BMW.

Ahhh... Yes, fast cars.... The ones you can't drive on Michigan roads because of that little conflict between pothole depth and ground clearance.... The ones where that top speed of 207 mph gets your license taken away forever if you use it..... The ones that cost more than many will earn in a lifetime and certainly more than most peoples houses will ever cost.... The ones that cost half the total national debt to fix a "zing"...... The ones whare your most likely result is that you kill yourself "quicker"......
I'll stick to my Honda Pilot thank you all very much.... I can drive it while the others are walking because they can't get their fast car out of the garage..... ;)

We seem to have alot in common as I started in computers with no formal training...other then being a musician and hooking up bands\pas\wireless equipment.
Basic in\out, cable management and troubleshooting.
Since then I have taken some advanced couses..but I catch on quick.
y old boss would say to me when I would wonder how people couldnt understand basic network connectivity
"Common sense isnt the common"
As for vehicles...I just got a RAM , Quad Cab, Hemi 5.7, 4x4...with all the fixings.
Good for the snow issues, camping and pulling the boat. :D

Saw a brand new one get trashed on Comedy Central's 'Distraction' game show - the chick had just won it then missed one of the 'mess you up' questions and got different colour paints thrown/dumped all over it. It's nice for a go-fast. I daresay I'd rather have a pickup truck, preferably a Chevy 2500 series.

The one I linked to though is my favorite. The BMW Engine and the car itself are amzing, and I just love it. They may be with Mercedes now but that car lives on.
I ever get signed for the shit I make, I'm buying one.
Tiger..... You'd ****ing pull over if a cop caught you foing 207?
I don't understand really, I've ran when I blew passed a Sherrif on the freeway doing 90 MPH, and I gunned it and got away. Shit man at 207, which by the way is NOT the top speed of this car, I wouldn't pull over. You're going to jail either way might as well have fun and have a chance at getting away. Cop cars mostly max out at 150 MPH with a few exceptions, but here in Michigan the cars that can go faster most cops don't have yet and even if they did, 180 MPH is not as fast as 240, and 0 - 100 in 4 seconds.
So it stays my favorite, and I believe the most elite of all cars because you can't touch that. The McLaren F1 is no longer built but improvements are still added. The car has a Modem in it so if you have problems the McLaren guys can find out what happened while someone comes to see you and fix your car.
No car can compete with that man.
A 442, GTO Judge, and a McLaren would be in my car collection if I had that money.

I got away in a 4 banger that maxed out at 120 MPH.His radio doesn't mean shit when you have talent. He could beat me in speed so when I slammed down the gas, I saw his lights come on and floored it more and got off the freeway which was I believe I-94 and after I got off I went down some roads and hid.

I had a boss with a buick grand national, after some drinking, he was pulled over, he stopped the car on a dirt road, and floored it once the cops came out of the car spraying them with debris. He couldn't out run their radios, but he did out run the county line and was never caught.
It all depends on how bored the cops are and the luck of the draw as to where they are patrolling. If one gets radio's about a chase and they are a couple of miles away, they will probably sayt screw it.

LMFAO I live on a island where the cops are not allowed to persue a car if it reaches the 100MPH mark. Then again...where the hell are you gonna run. if you are in an area where you can break 100mph and not spinout/crash/die/etc then you are on one of the freeways which are very short and have few exits. the cops would just block you in or follow you withn a helicopter that can be over you in less then 20 minutes if you are on any of the main roads. AND even if you DO "escape" this place is so damn small chances are your car will be spotted within a week or so and then youre screwed anyway.

I remember a few years back looking at a brochure of a Yamaha car, two-seater ( one front, one right behind in the centre), touted as the only street legal car ( at that time ) with a genuine Grand Prix engine, selling price $1,000,000 available in limited quantities. Haven't heard about it since...not even on the net...not even on the Yamaha sites...maybe it never made it to production. It looked real sweet !
