Will there ever be a Newsletter 13? I know there was a problem getting writers but I would be willing to contribute. If nothing else you could take some of the better tutorials and pretty them up with images and side bars in PDF format. I’d like to see it continue.

Yes, I would like to see it continue as well, I would like to contribute as well. Like for example if you want to use any of the many hardware related tutorials on AO, I would be more then happy to contribute some digitalized photos of the hardware to help explain the tutorials a little better... Just an idea... Let us know! :D

If I get enough contributors I'll be more than glad to do a #13. Keep in mind, it would be ideal to have articles/tutorials that haven't been published here alread (new content idea).
How about a new deadline: Say April 30th, 2005?

Ok, I can get you something by April 30th. After it's published I'd like to add it to the tutorials section so it's eaier to find by searching the forums. What format is best for sending it to you? OpenOffice, MS Publisher, RTF, Word?
MrLinus
March 13th, 2005, 10:11 PM
RTF or Word or Open Office are fine.

I don't want to put any pressure on thehorse13, but I hear he's planning on making some tutorials on topics like steganography, and something about exploit code... Maybe he would like to contribute as well? Hopefully :D?

I would be glade to contribute my tutorial on Installing slackware if you wanted I know most people reading it will probably know how to install it but i would be more than glade to offer rit you want.
MrLinus

By all means.. Anything that will help others learn or introduce some point (must be original work and have appropriate references/footnotes/endnotes where needed). :)

March 17th, 2005, 02:15 PM
Maybe we should put that out somewhere on the tutorial forum, a notice saying please contribute it to the Newsletter instead of posting it here?
MrLinus
March 17th, 2005, 02:17 PM
I don't necessarily want people to not post in Tutorials but rather that the newsletter could allow them to do more expanded or detail tutorials that the limitations of a forum may not allow. (screenshots at certain points, specific formatting, etc.)

Ah I see, well if its just to get a Newsletter out maybe for this issue just take tutorials that aren't so detailed. It's been a while since there has been one I think, I am not sure.

I would like to contibute but at the moment the only skills or information I have to offer are in tutorials like this: http://www.hackthissite.org/articles/read/155
Would this tutorial or the one I am currently writing Virus/Worm/Exploit Payload part one:Shellcode.
None of my work is of really high or extreamly good standard I think but you guy's can be the judge.
To be honest. I was alway's hoping to get the hts.org programming articles above the basic/for dumies (html,x++, vb, perl, batch) level but it never seems to get off the ground.

How about some details as to why you are calling specific includes or what the script is doing? It's not much of a tutorial; seems, rather, more of a sample script. Perhaps an intro describing why you would use this script, what it does (line-by-line or bunches of lines) and what other areas to consider.

I'm trying to think of something to do that would benefit from the graphic layout abilities the PDFs have to offer. How about an article on Pocket PC Pen-testing tools? It’s not as good as a Zaurus but cheaper and more common.

Sure. That's an area that isn't looked into that often but certainly would be interesting. :)

Exactly my point... nothing and neither have you. There has however been a couple of times I've posted something purely as a joke and got thanked for it from people without the wiser though. And it was these events which shown me that no matter how dumb a tutorial can be there is eventually someone out there who will actually be nieve and stupid enought to see it as a usefull resource.

but i can help writing something in new technology ( do u have a section or part for that )
to be more specific DNA Computers.... or Microwave Gun.

You can read the existing newsletters by checking my signature. And submit what you want to me and I'll take it into consideration. I would suggest proper english for it (your posting style wouldn't be fun to read in a newsletter), and even if you take malicious topics think of ways that it could be defended against or preventing that particular act from happening (sometimes that's more challenging than the actual malicious act).

Guys,
After crossing one thread yesterday about AO News Letters, I downloaded all of them and so far, so far I really admire the works, it's an extraordinary effort to put up in such community and I really am glad I had joined AO cause I believe this is a right decision (contrary to SOME people bragging about ideas that AO s8cks, man, they really don't understand 1% of the cause [the why]).
Keep it up, I wish I could contribute too, but I guess not yet for the security tutorials, MsM, if you need anything from multimedia or some other areas, I could help (really) in layout, logos, some cool effects (if it is really needed), but on top of that I really am interrested to contribute efforts one way or the other.
Goodluck to issue #13!

Thats a bit over it don't you think? How dramatic... but I gotta say though that im obviously one of those people you've meantioned cause I really don't get it. Now please reiterate the so called cause, [the why].
While you think of a response to this im just going to say that if you want a real "social movement" or what ever you wanna call it, ummm... it'd might help to walk outside for starters.

If not this way, then I am probably WRONG about you, anyway, who gives the d@mn? Few people here reacts on you... And I will not react as far as I can avoid it... Just this time... And no need to think a response to your message... :D

I'd like to take a peek at it. I may have some info to add. I've been playing with my PPC a lot lately.
PM me if you'd like. Or, I can provide a email addy to send it to.
I finally found someone who has the WM2K3 upgrade for mine since I still hav WM2K2 on it.
I just need an ftp server so they can upload it. I don't have one right this sec. My home server is down, so I have to get it back up this weekend... that is unless I can find a temp ftp server to upload it. I'm told the upgrade is less than 50mb with the rom image and bootloader/romloader.

Well I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but wouldn't including recent tutorials in the newsletter be a good idea?
You could choose 3 or 4 or 5 of the best tutorials since the last newsletter, and with the author's permission (or JupM's), include it as an article.
Also, I'm sure there's a mountain of information around here if you just ask for it. Perhaps suggesting topics which you would like to see included would be a good idea.
And MsM, if you need more articles, publicize it! Put a little message in your signature like you have previously so it shows up in a few more places.
Glad to see Insight's coming back. I really do enjoy reading it.

I'd rather not. This has been up for almost two months. It'll be a smaller issue then and other articles submitted can go to the next issue. If someone has an article that they'll submit in a day or two, I'll give a minor extension but nothing more than that.
