It might be time to check out DiamondCS again. They have quite a few useful little tools in their freebies collection.

Recently, you can now get a home user free edition of "processguard". In the old days you could get a permanent trial that only protected one process. Now it is a functionally limited version where you can protect as many as you like. The product has sort of moved out of beta, so it is more or less an extended version of the old one.

Whilst you are there you might like to check "wormguard" as well.

That looks like an awesome program. I used to use a feature in kerio firewall that wouldnt even let a process launch unless I said it could.

I have been playing with it off and on for almost a week now, it seems pretty thorough, as it even asked me if it should let Wordpad execute :D

OK, I skipped the initial learning option just to see what it was like in respect of conflicts, resource hogging, overheads, ease of use and the like. I wanted a worst possible scenario with basically nothing pre-approved ;)

It seems pretty good so far. I haven't tried to see how it would handle anything malicious yet...................I believe in testing whether stuff will play nice on your machine first................I am afraid that I take the rather pragmatic view that if software won't play nice all it is competing with is the I/O switch?

I also haven't tested to see if it will do a clean uninstall yet.

I deliberately chose a lacklustre box that might be typical of a not so savvy home user:

Athlon XP 1900+, 1Gb PC 2700, onboard sound & video, 7200rpm IDE drive.

It is an Australian company, and their promotional style is different from ours.......... I learned that when I was working in the ethical pharmaceutical industry, which is about as straight laced as you can get :eek:

I have used their free stuff for at least 8 years now, and my opinion is that it "does what it says on the box"
