I do not have enough $ to buy a new operating system. Windows 98 Special Edition costs around $400. Could this be because I have not defragmented in a while?
You can get a basic copy of Mandrake Linux 8.2 for 30-40 bucks, or an expanded edition for $69.00.

As well, with Mandrake and most of the major distros. You can go to their respective sites and download the ISO images or builds for your particular system. Most of the vendors have a list of ftp mirrors with their distro. Also, most of theses are on university servers so you can go up to the /pub dir and find several other distros and goodies. I got mine from the University of Notre Dame. I got the four cd set (cd 3 and 4 are compressed on ISO disk 3), plus two additional cd's of apps from the server. Best of all. It was FREE*...............
*Note: You had beter use broadband for the downloads because each ISO image is over 600Mbs each.

If the programs are things like "rundll32" and "systray" dont mess with them.
sytray is just your system tray, if you turn that off, the little volume icon disapears from your clock untill next time you reboot, and as for rundll32, I'v been running without that for quite some time now with little problems
