Mandrake is a nice place to start. They have a free online training program called Mandrake Campus. I did most of the course 2 years ago, haven't been back recently, it was pretty good at the time. But what do I know, I think any free training is good!! You sign up for it at http://www.mandrakeclub.com/

I like both RedHat and Debian. RedHat installed itself pretty much. I just had to select a few options. Debian on the other hand, well I had to get my hand dirty with that. But, I learned a lot. If you like to tinker try Debian.

Everyone here knows my takes on Linux, im a supporter of SuSe Linux and for Free BSD, either one owns, SuSe is a hell of alot easier though. If your new to this, look for a thread called "Operating System Selection" It has a ton of info and i think you may like it.

You can use which ever version of Linux, but I don't see why you would buy it, when you could download it freely. What you might want to do, is buy a book that has linux cd's. That way, not only will you be able to learn, but you'll have the cd's you want.

To let the people making it know they are appreciated.
