IE and command prompt
question for all those Microsoft hackers..........my friend is able to open command prompt by typing a command into IE address bar......but he won't tell me how he does it until I'm able to figure it out............how does he do this?.....I"m thinking it is something like C:\windows.......\command.com in the address bar........

Whoa, I got played big time. I typed command.com in the address bar, and actually thought it was command.com that opened(in a sense it was). It was really just a website made to look like the dos prompt. I'm in windows 98se and I just type c:\command.com in the address bar. You just need to browse through my computer to find where it is and just type the location in the address bar.

I think you misunderstood me. I use win98se. I just typed in c:\command.com and it worked. In my computer it is in c:\
Unless you weren't talking to me, either way on mine it is in c:\ and I assume it is the same for any other win98se computer.

Any command can be executed this way, because Internet Explorer
is a full fledged command shell for windows, not just an internet
browser. This feature is controversial. Although it adds some convenience,
it is a security issue. Imagine all the malicious links that could
be put on web sites.
I think a lot of patches have been made to prevent some of the nasty
things that could be done to you remotely.
Non Microsoft browsers won't do this because they aren't
"integrated" into windows the way IE is.
I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.
