To me, installing pcanywhere on every machine seems like an administrator's nightmare, somewhat. It all depends on how many pc's you have to install pcanywhere on. One solution I am looking at is SSL VPN gateway. No special configuration is needed on the client end. They are a little pricey right now, but will definitely come down as more networking company's catch on.

All you would need is a SSL gateway at your main office and anypone needing access doesn't need any special software, just a browser which supports SSL. If you want to use fat clients such as outlook or peoplesoft, for example, some of the ssl gateways come with a java plugin which allow the fat clients to direct traffic to the right servers.

I'm no expert in SSL gateways, just giving you options.

Check out Netscreen they just bought a company called Neoteris which has a kick butt SSL gateway.

Cisco has announced they will have limited ssl vpn support in their vpn gateway's somoetime soon.
