Well... going through the posts being made by worthy antionliners in this thread for the last four days now.. Sometimes verry good points cited... sometimes getting a little bit personal and sometimes sprouting something completely off the track..

THis thread has been posted for the views to write a paper on a topic.... I wondered how many serious researchers are there on this forum (this is another point that a lot of equisterian reseach is suggested here)....

Well going by the side of M$, is going to fetch me even more negative points I know... its not sure whether its because of my non-american profile or because of the hatred of too many ppl for M$... Anywayz... I dont care for the points that I get.... because I m not here for the points only..

M$ no doubt has some flaws in its marketing strategies and it is being penalised for the same..
But lets not forget that since the verry beginning, when Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer were not so rich and they were only tech savvy college sophomores, they have contributed a lot in the field... GUI interface was first thought of by them.. thats a different issue that Linux flavours followed the line and introduced XWindows system...

Lets go even further.. BIll Gates himself modified DOS and gave us MSDOS... so many new features were added to the original IBM's PC DOS.. . well many of them were inherited from UNIX also..

But knowing the track record of UNIX... it is an OS for Tech Nerds only and not for the laymen... who cant find any meaning in remembering so many switches and options in a single command.. MS DOS simplified the work ... because if everything remained dependant on UNIX there would have not been so many new computer whiz kids all across the globe.. DOS and then M$s Windows simplified the job of creating new computer maniacs..

They brought the subject out of the cluches of hardcore professionals to a normal man with all its ease and simplicity. That is why they have been successful..

Well I have not pondered upon whether the existing software licencing mechanism is foolproof or flawed.. We shall need a separate thread for that..

So computers were helpful to common man because some serious researchers thought about the issue on how a common man could benefit from all this jargon full arena..

As far as the point of Microsoft destroying the internet concerned ... I dont think thats true..
The proper caption for the posters paper could be.. Is the present Licensing and Proprietarship mechanism going to kill Innovation...

Internet is something verry big term and Microsoft is a verry specific target in Paper's caption..May be this thread would have got a lot of Antipoints because of that.. But nobody can deny the realities..

This thread is already getting too extended and seems that would lead to members balking to go through.. I shall post a separate thread for the issue.. Till then I close for now
