Yeah... Nihil is correct the U.S. military out sources "all" programming jobs. Most of them go to believe it or not lockhead martin. They use them and another company. I can't think of the name of the place right now. I used to have to call both places on a regular basis when I was in the Navy.
You are pretty S.O.L. on the programming. (Though I did hear that if you are good you can get a company to pick up your billet and bring you on to help out while you are in the military.)
As for IT stuff. Now that is a completely different story. Your job will decide that. You and your classifier should of talked about that before you signed your paperwork. You are now infantry. Which really sucks for you. You can still try to get designated for the job that you want. You just have to bust ass. Anyway... to put it simply you got screwed. You can however break your contract before you leave for bootcamp. Your recruiter will tell you that it isn't possible but there is a clause that allows you to. (Trust me... I helped many a person get out of the military because of clauses that no one knows about.)
I say talk to your recruiter and find out if you can change. If you really wanted to work in IT you should of chose the Navy or Air Force. They are the smarter of the 4 branches. (Coast Guard doesn't count.)
