Also, why would you install the VM (Returnil) prior to Truecrypt?
Because you did, and if you did, you have to remember to turn the VM off if you want to permanently install a new application. Pretty much the same as running a program in a sandbox.
Most people would not install Truecrypt on a secure desktop, so it is more likely that they would install other security software first?

"Time Freeze" (Toolwiz)
A couple more you might like to look at? I believe that they still have private use versions for stand alone computers.
