How do I find out the IP of a computer who's computer name I know?
My machine is running Linux Ubuntu and I am trying to connect to a Windows 7 machine. The Windows machine shows up in my Places>Network folder. Is there any way I can find out the IP of that machine just by knowing it's computer name? This is my fiance's computer so rest assured that I am not doing anything illegal
 Just playing around with some tools that are newly learned...Thank you for any input. It is greatly appreciated. KL3PT

NBstat or nbtstat command. Google it..

Hostname to IP: nbtstat -a [hostname]
IP to Hostname: nbtstat -A [IP] You could also use ping. ping [hostname] |

traceroute also works.
