How do I find out the IP of a computer who's computer name I know?

My machine is running Linux Ubuntu and I am trying to connect to a Windows 7 machine. The Windows machine shows up in my Places>Network folder. Is there any way I can find out the IP of that machine just by knowing it's computer name? This is my fiance's computer so rest assured that I am not doing anything illegal Just playing around with some tools that are newly learned...

Thank you for any input. It is greatly appreciated.

Hostname to IP: nbtstat -a [hostname]
IP to Hostname: nbtstat -A [IP]

You could also use ping.
ping [hostname]
