Actually nmapNT does a good job on most m$ machines. I use it when I'm stuck at a m$ terminal, and cant get to anything else.

I dont get my Info from AOL Chats trust me....
And well buddy, it might not exactly be "ilegal" to portscan, but hm.... lemme think, normaly when you portscan you want to look for an open port, well port scanning draws attention to you, and the seccond you gain access to a port well that admin will have people on your ass, and that IS ilegal, because you dont have permition to access it.
Get my point??... using a non stelth port-scanner is an EASY way to get cought, so why dont you go hack something and get cought???
I don't believe the issue is whether it is legal or not but whether the ISP your going thorugh determines it is not a good use of their bandwidth.
For open source and *nix ones like nessus and nmap go to FreshMeat .Quote:

I believe that nmap originates from http://www.insecure.org
And for LanGuard and others like it check out Help Net Security
"Port Scanning is NOT considered hacking and is perfectly legal"
Not arguing with that statement; but ISP's don't approve of it.
Our previous ISP "had" a help-desk staff who scanned our ports, on a regular basis. He got fired after being reported.
They feel it's like walking down a street, and testing all the doors and windows of the houses to see if one is open.
Why test ports (or doors), unless you are looking for an opening ?
(or testing your own weaknesses)
My 2 cents worth.
I use NetBrute port scanner for win9x. Nice proggie, with extra added features beyond port scanning.

Of ALL the DL sites that I have seen, the BEST place to download ANY freeware is at :Quote:

In addition to Languard & several other scanners, they also have eSTOP! & the Trojan First Aid Kit, along with quite a few Security apps.
You might have to look around a bit to find everything, but they have an on-site search engine to assist you.

Well instead of looking for them one by one on their websites....
Why dont u use a very helpfull tool called the seach engine, personally i think the best one is C4
Try that....
