Ok, nice one guys, just back to hand out the medals, you lot have helped me crack it I think.
If it is useful, this is what I have done to rid myself of this evil entity:
updated windows, adaware, spybot and spywareblaster.
fixed the hijack this bits you guys pointed out.
Ran adaware and ewidow in safe mode then rebooted and did it again untill I got two consecutive clean scans.
I noticed that spybot did not like to be run in safe mode, and cannot be shut down after it is opened (I am guessing that this one is not really designed to be ran in safemode whereas adaware really performs well.)
added Spyware guard
added winpatrol which I really like

I have not had anymore problems, though it has only been a little while. I don't know if I will have got rid of it, though I do think that if it is there it can't run.
