Let me correct you then. Do you know for a fact that those computers are federally founded? Just because the school is, doesn't mean "everything" in that school is. Someone might have donated them to the school, making them school's property. Also, since the school is federally founded, the Feds will give the school certain guidelines on what they MUST censor. Now, the school can do act on their own discretion to cencor those computers further, depending on their need. I seriously doubt that CNN and FoxNews is being cencored.
I'm not sure how you can feel strongly about an issue you don't even understand. Or maybe it is because you don't understand it that you feel so strongly.Quote:
i just feel strongly about this issue
First, let's start with censorsip...
Nothing has been deleted, cnn.com still works fine, fox news still works fine..... if your school had somehow shut down cnn's and fox's websites because they don't agree with what they are printing..that would be censorship.Quote:
CENSORSHIP
Pronunciation: 'sensur`ship
WordNet Dictionary
Definition:
1. [n] deleting parts of publications or correspondence or theatrical performances
2. [n] counterintelligence achieved by banning or deleting any information of value to the enemy
Your argument (if you can call it that) is along the lines of "I can't do what I want so I am going to hold my breath 'till I turn blue"
When you go tell your teacher to F**k off, are you going to cry "free speech" when you get suspended?
The school owns the computers, regardless of how they got them. In fact, while you are in school, the school owns your ass too.
What I find amusing about this entire thread is that you think your school actually did something to you.
None of this is about free speech or censorship. It is about web sites being BLOCKED..see the distinction?
LOL groov, I was actually going to check the spelling of the word :). I've only been in the US for 6 years, so I'm yet to get some words right :).
Thnx for clearing that out for me. I think I spelled it right in one of my posts though.
first thing grovicus if i am not making a good point then why are you arguing with me???
ok so i will prounced what i mean as filtering.....
i can admit all of you have good points. and yes all the computers at this school is bot and payed for by the state & fedral government... i can say that we donot exept computer donations because there is to much paper work involved.
now this is a school for the deaf and blind.(whoever put these to catogroies together sure had a sick sence of humor) i can admit that students mis use the computers but that is infact not there fault but that of the schools for not educating them on how to use the computers properly, instaid they slap on restrictions just like library computers and say you can't do that... ok thats leagle, but it incuriges people that are not educated on the siduation to go why can't i, then as they say curiosity kills the cat.
people love the judge the whole over a small part so if one person does somthing wrong they blame it on the whole group, sure its the easyest thing to do but is it he right thing?
and to difine own "ADJECTIVE: Of or belonging to oneself or itself" can be put it into perspective lets say i gave you a sweater, by your standers they only way you own it is if i sign a paper saying its yours.. but if i just gave it to you i could come back a year later and say hay i want my sweetshirt back, then i could leagaly take it, right?
i don't care what you call it but since they are diniening me access to lets say CNN.com or Foxnews.com then they are dipriving me of an eduction in Civics. and by the constetution all People have the right to an education..

http://www.house.gov/Constitution/Amend.html
I providing you with these links so you can actually look at the constitution and the amendments for your self. I think it would be a good idea before you continue your debate..otherwise it's like wearing your swimsuit to a nuclear blast.
Where in the Constitution does it say you have a right to an education...please find that for me. Try searching the document for "school", "educate", "college", or "education" (the link at the bottom doesn't count)Quote:
and by the constetution all People have the right to an education.
Do the same for the amendments...there's nothing there. You have no "right" to an education. However, in order for society to flourish and grow, and education is desirable.....
Just because you are not allowed to view certain websites at school doesn't mean you are being deprived of anything... you can still view them at home. I have yet to see a library that blocks any kind of news media (it could happen I suppose).
Sure you could....I'd think you were kind of creepy, but to each his or her own.Quote:

No, it's not right. That's why there are words like stereotype., and politician ;) Unfortunately, one bad person can cause enough problems that measeures have to be taken to prevent the problem from happening again. That's just the way the world works.Quote:

Oh? I didn't realize we were arguing. I thought we were having a nice discussion. You were talking about censorship, all I did was point out that your issue was NOT about censorship. In order to have a good discussion, we need to be talking about the same things. I was trying to EDUCATE you on what it was you were really talking about.Quote:

I especially like debating issues as they relate to the US Constitution...the more I debate, the more I learn...and I have no problem when someone tells me I am wrong. If I am wrong, I have yet another opportunity to learn something else.
The only thing that bothers me about your issues is that you sound like society owes you something.... don't be a victim. If there are issues in your life that you don't like, fix them. If they can't be fixed, learn to cope and compensate. If all you do is spend your time complaining about how unfair life is, then life sucks.
We're not arguing with you. We're simply trying to help you understand. As I said earlier, you really are lost and confused. Groovicus couln't have said it better. If you think we're arguing that why do u continue? Look, your school i'm sure it has computer classes. Most schools in the US do, especially the ones that own computers. It is your responsibility to take those classes. I'm tired of this and its headed nowhere. You came here asking for help, and suddenly you started complaining about how much your life sux. We tried to help you, and we literally spoonfed you the information you need to KNOW before you go on and do something stupid. Remember you came to us, we didn't come to you. None of us has to help you, and when we do help someone, it would be really nice if the help was appreciated, instead of being misunderstood. We all have Families, jobs, lives. Every once in a while I get online to check on anything new that I can learn or how I can help someone. The only reason why I do this is because I owe this to many people here who have helped me.
I think its time for this thread to be closed. I'm sorry if you do not understand, and wish you the best of luck.
ok no my school does not offer computer classes.......... sorry they used to but the teacher quit.
they have yet to get a new one for the past 5 yrs... also i have said befor... school is my home, i live at school........
and if you have not noticed i have thanked you in earlyer threads.....
do you really want to know what i am doing.... in my english class i am doing a report on internet filtering..... i am against it yes but i needed opinions.... thanks people i got all i needed from this thread.....
how do we terminate it???? can i???
I wonder if this is isolated or if Universities are locking down sutdent access based on litigation. For example, going after the school for abuses it's students may cause by hacking, downloading illegal software etc. Didn't the RIAA cause several universities huge headaches and legal problems last year?
I guess it's good to learn early that your rights as a us citizen do not overstep other's rights to do as they please, just like you want to. You want to surf cnn.com and the person or persons responsible for the network, don't want you too. It's very odd that they block CNN.com, what is up with the motivation behind that? Streaming media? And fox.news? Strange. I can see hustler.com. Perhaps your approach to things pissed of the sys admin from michigan?
