I doubt that they would bomb our own country! Right? Or would they? Like the White House technology adviser says:

it sounds to me that the gov is just attempting to scare people. if they really planned on "bombing" terrorists that use the net as their weapon, they would not advertise it to the public. they would just act. that is how the gov works. we have people who penetrate other goverments the same way. ever since the goverment started using tech in world war 2, we have had cyber battles between goverments all outside the publics view. when it comes to gathering information, it is easier to use the classic methods of spying and using moles etc, than it is to try and penetrate a highly secured and monitored encrypted goverment system. and as far as attacks go, i know first hand that we could improve that on our side. that is part of my job actually. the gov is just trying to scare away the script kiddies until they can catch up and patch all the holes in our systems now that we have a "war" going on.

- second the internet and TCP/IP are invented by military and universities. Internet orginates from ARPAnet, it is build to avoid going down due to bombing. Remember that the net is decentralized, so the crakcer can be everywhere... taking down servers has no real influence on the net due to the principles of TCP/IP, the packets choose their own best way, that's the strenght of the whole decentralized net idea... and crackers can use it as well.

As someone who works with the Federales on a daily basis I have a somewhat different opinion than most of y'all....

Most Fed. types are good people (there are of course bad apples here and there) who are called upon to do a very hard job. Its there job to keep the majority of people safe from harm, and to do right by as many people as they can! Its not easy, and every time the make a decision they make someone upset. They get thousands of death threats, poor pay, and shitty offices...yet they still do their jobs day in and out. I don't envy them...

In regards to the article....I don't think most hackers have anything to worry about...but if you stick your dick up to high and get it to big, the Federal Weed Wacker is going to slice it off! (hows that for a mental image!)

hmm first of all, we really cant tell whats goin on in the minds of our governments. too many conspiracy theory going on and some of them are real.. and yes they are willing to go to very extreme extents just for "national security". Even if it takes to kill an innocent little child, as long as its for national security, they would do it, and would even send their best sniper/hitman/agent for it, depending on how severe the case is.
