Hmmm, with the old voiceline dial-up then that wouldn't be an issue, as the cap was a hardware limitation. A script wouldn't help.

Try mess with broadband and the capping is at the ISP. That would require criminal (felonious) activity on your part?

Here in the U.S. One can change the cable modems firmware to ignore certain ISP controlled settings. I do not believe it is illegal, as long as you own said modem; however, if you do "Un Cap" your modem - you will soon find your cable service (including T.V.) disabled and you will likely NEVER get service turned back on. And AFAIK, Cable, phone and Satellite companies in the U.S. share this type of data.

That is something I'll back up, I know most cable companies are NOT OK with anyone screwing with their system. However, Comcast is fairly "nice" in the fact that I can bring up the Didgital Cable boxes control panel by myself to check if the connection is good, what the IP is, see the log files and so on, the tech who came over to see why OnDemand wasn't working just had me do most of the tests myself lol. He was awesome.

That is cool gore. I wish roadrunner was like that; the one time I needed a new modem the guy came out to my house and acted like he wrote the book on networking...

I read a while back about un-capping modems, and sounds like you can get into some trouble for that...

Well I'm sure it is against their TOS and I believe it would be illegal being considered as theft of telecommunication services since you're not officially paying for the service you are getting. In Canada that would fall under article 281.2 or the Criminal Code.

By un capping the modem...which is removing a "software" limitation....which is probably, as all ready stated by the Mr wise Ippersiel,

against TOS (here in Canada anyway)

and in other words...illegal

unless you own the modem of course....then you can do what ever the fook you want....I am sure the ISP will probably cap you..somewhere else down the line

Anyway, no, they don't work. The only thing they do is take up space. If you want to make your internet faster, I suggest that you switch ISPs. But I'm here as a n00b, so don't take my advice.
