Coming in too late to influence anything here but ...
Yamaha can make good guitars. At least for learning or starting out, they do the job.
Fender make seriously rocking guitars, some of the best in the world. I have a strat ( a proper Fender one, not a Squire ), which is a fantastic instrument to play. The Squires are not so good, but still very good guitars. If you are considering possibly being in a band, the Fender has to be the choice. As to holding its value, well maybe, unless Ennis actually starts to use it for performing. The purpose of a guitar is to be played and enjoyed, not for an investment. So play it, and ROCK YOUR HOUSE!
