lol -- this "google thingy" was actually a mistake (i originally posted the wrong thread -- it was one i was still working on (i don't want to sound stupid)) but in short, the google toolbar which was once perfect in blocking popups, now does not block all of them and pop-ups seem to be getting around the blocking..

just change your chanel, he and his network is not important enough for you to deal with.

Sorry Axeman, but where is the fun in that? This "turnip" (his neighbor) obviously needs a lesson in:

Being neighborly
Being courtious to others
Network security
Wireless exploits
I say do the FTP thing and see how long it takes him to notice how long it takes his browser pages to load.
Good Luck with your neighbor.
I have a question; are you the bug, or the windshield?

Interestingly enough FCC regulation states that when a device is operating at the license capacity and it is interfering with you, it is your repsonsibility to fix the interference. For example changing channels or filtering it somehow. I agree with Tiger he is a, what was it... ****twit?
I'll drive by with some toys of mine and burn out his wep reciever, then I could do his TV as well assuming I can get close enough if he has cable. If he's on an antenna cake. I am just kidding of course, but wouldn't that be fun in a hypothetical sense and I do have the stuff for it. In fact if you change channels, I could make it so he could never connect. Of course your electrical bill would go up since we would be creating a strong magnetic field in his general direction and that would have to be sustained. Or you could blip it off and on as desired, for effect. Of course that is against the law, and as a good natured human. I would approach him again, have some beer and see if you can get him to understand that he is a ****nut and your are trying to help is llama ass.

Considering that he is uneducated in computer technology, he probably hasn't applied all the nessesary updates, or turned off unnessesary services.
Just start sending him some 'Messenger Service' messages about how he should set his network up in a safe fashion. Of course if you use a few personal facts to scare him alittle, he might just take it seriously.
Like: Please use encryption and proper safe guards on your wireless network. Your car licence number is XXXXXX and you live at XXXXXX Your town, USA, and your name is XXXX XXXX and you wifes name is XXXXX XXXXX"
He might just be worried and scared enough to jerk out his computer all together, and you would have a new system by picking it out of his trash.
Edit: and address him by his ham call sign that you can pick up off your TV. It would searve to perhaps get him to harden his radio system also.

unfortunately this is not the first time he is not in compliance with the FCC -- he is also a ham radio operator and we are constantly picking up his conversations on our TV, telephone, once there was something funny happening with the microwave while the tv was telling us what he was saying... lol -- and he gave us filters and do "tests" but i don't think he is doing the tests on the frequencies that he actually uses...

If he is a Ham operator, and he is causing problems, why not just turn him in. the FCC are very strict when it comes to these operators. too many reports on him will get his license and equipment taken.

well, i am renting the basement from my fiance's parents, and they don't want to cause problems with their neighbors -- i have been tempted many times... i figure this summer i am going to give him 3 strikes before he is out

if they arnt running encryption and they havent changed there passwords type the IP of the AP and get into there AP with the default username and password normally admin admin will get you in. then you can set there signal range to a shorter preamble and you shouldnt see it again.
I had this same problem with a neighbor but his wireless was killing my connection to my AP. Only difference was I took him down, I changed this passwords, changed his ip and subnet, blocked his mac, set wep, and reduced the preamble. after i changed the ssid to hacked, he got the message and he turned it off. this was over a month ago and its been off ever sence. Now im not saying what i did was right trust me i hear enough of t from my wife.
you need to do something about this quick for the fact that if your neighbor has a worm or virus you might get infected too. so try reducing his signal strenght and see if this helps. he probably wont even see a difference,

Like I said, if he is operating on licensed equipment with the regulated power then the interference is on you. Most hams are very nice when it comes to making sure there isn't interference. Calls signs are public, what's his. I'll get on and **** with him someday.
Chances are he is a ****twit operator that is not properly grounding his stuff or he's over powering the bands by not paying attention to ERP. A filter on your TV should work assuming he's got a decent ground on his ham shack and he's not dipping the AC power enough to cause distortion during the modulation process - thus causing his radio to drift off frequency or induce some serious noise. He doesn't even have to be tuned to anything in your house, such as Channel 7 on the tele. All he has to do is induce enough power to raise the noise floor of your local environment enough that the audio will come across any channel.
Hmm, but the real issue is the WEP, just change frequencies eh? If he really just won't leave you alone to watch tv because of his noise.... there are ways to take matters into one's own hand. A pushpin will do nicely. Sounds like he wouldn't even notice a little reflected power. That's all I am going to say.
