Ahmen, thanks Bill Clinton. <--- always politics. DMCA was "supposed" to make huge waves on the internet. "We Won't stand for it!" we all yelled. Not a fart in the wind when it dropped. I don't put much stake on "waiting" for the internet community to RE-act. You guys and gals in Utah need to vote that guy out. The strides RIAA desires are too unforgiving.

    \EDIT

Digging through the fluff. Here are the major supporters of the bill.

    Patrick Leahy, Democrat-Vt.
    Bill Frist, Republican-Tenn.
    Tom Daschle, Democrat-S.D.
    Lindsey Graham, Republican-S.C.
    Barbara Boxer, Democrat-Calif.

    And we know the sponsor.

\\EDIT This is a senat bill identified as s. 2560 that seeks to modify Section 5 of Title 17 of the United States Code to read that anyone knowingly IDUCEing (get it) methods that can be used to violate copyright is therefore CRIMINALy negligent. Not the one copying, get that straight. This EXPANDS that method to the one making the system capable of copying. The author of Napster or CDRW manufacturer. Those on our side introduced measures just weeks ago that would reduce the effect to only Software makers versus Hardware. That does not go far enough but at this point I am not sure what will happen. It was only introduced in June, there's a long way to go and the money is on RIAA right now. Before campaing finance laws the democrats in california were getting 36 million or so from the industry. Getting our own senators to vote our way is most likely our key. Ask them how they would vote before you cast yours.

One thing to note is that it's doubtful that a law like this would pass if it would stop many major retail companies from selling their products. Many companies would have loads of stock to get rid of if this happened - they would lose a fortune.

These companies would not be particularly happy if a bill like that was passed. But then again, maybe people in america enjoy it when the government takes away large quantities of their money.

I have had some more thoughts, and am highly amused

Not sure of the spelling, but have any of you heard of the Volstead Act..............Prohibition? All that did was p1ss people off and make a lot of criminals very rich.

Have the RIAA bozos considered that if they were successful they would simply increase the market for Pirate editions amongst those who currently swap files/CDs/DVDs?

/Me goes to dig out Fedora hat, double breasted suit...........and squirt some Hoppe's #9 into the old Thompson Sub-Machinegun

My advice would be to write to your local representative and opposition party candidate and ask where they stand. Explain that there are two answers "for" or "against" any mealy mouthed , equivocal, quisling answers will be interpreted as unfitness to hold office, and will be reflected in your voting.

I would go for your representatives in both houses even though it is a Senate thing at the moment...........nothing like stirring them all up.

Might be an idea to give Mr. Bush and Mr. Kerry a dig whilst you are at it...........make sure that you get the replies published in your local media as well

Remember folks, election times are when politicians are at their most vulnerable.............you have "the whip hand" so why not crack it

BTW I really do like politicians on the make/take, I just don't think that I could eat a whole one

    Cheers
